Really thankful for them giving us the prospect of starting in the distant lands someday ... and by that being able to expand the player count within multiplayer. Alas, maybe for our Christmas-gathering our group of 8 will be able to play a game of Civ7 together ... which released in February :twitch:

I haven't seen anything to indicate they've made such a major change, I think it will come when the player can spawn in distant lands.
I agree. Before we'll see distant land AI handling treasure fleets, we'll need mechanics to deal with them. Could you capture treasure fleets produced on your own continent? What could you do with them? I don't think that's resolved yet.

And for players to spawn on distant lands, on top of this we'll need symmetrical map generation, at least for multiplayer.

Distant-land-Aid can already capture treasure fleets generated on their own continent and they direct them towards their homeland. So the player should be able to do the same.

Let's see how far they already took the implementation. In the ideal case, the distant-land-AIs can already generate treasure fleets in your homelands and only the code for putting the player in distant lands is missing (which could be overcome with map mods)

AI can't exploit this mechanics, human players could. You could go as far as gifting some your settlements to distant land AIs just to grab treasure fleets they'll start to produce.

Firaxis is taking slow but sure approach in their patches, so I doubt they'll release this mechanics that way.

That seems like something you could do anyway if you just positioned your navy around an AI settlement generating treasure fleets on the distant lands? Only thing that changes is how far you'd need to travel in order to then cash in the captured treasure fleets.
Doesn't seem like a particularly effective exploit anyway, giving up whole settlements in exchange for a bit of gold and faster legacy progress.

If you plan it in antiquity you could do it in a pretty efficient way. Having even a single settlement with a lot of resources, locked from the ocean by another your settlement could produce huge amount of treasure fleets which are easy to pick and you could recapture the settlement in the end of the age.

Anyway, that's just one exploit off the top of my head and I really dislike it, because it goes against the normal flow of the game.

At what time today does the patch launch? Anyone know?
In the past they've been released between 1pm and 7pm (BST, currently 12:25 at time of writing for me), so could be any time soon! Typically aren't released long after the hour though.

By the way, is there popup window for new messages on chat available? i didn't find it in the the past.
