Are DLCs worth it?

Well, you got Khan for free. Do you think he added much? Love that scenario? Probably not. In that case DLC is simply not worth it. Not at all. The game is still the same boring game. More civs, maps and scenarios doesn't change that.

DLC is for people who really like the game.
I must disagree, I don't really like Civ V much at all (especially compared to the awesomely complex and atmospheric Civ IV). BUT I find the scenarios in the Civ V DLC packs are much more fun than the actual game itself (lol), partly because they're so much more challenging, especially on the higher levels. 1066 was fun because it's consumed by military tactics, and on higher levels it's a real nail-biter to see if you can get all the Courts constructed in time. The Vikings are hardly menacing in that scenario, but they do tend to take key cities. It is quite tough as Normandy to win though, or at least, I found it to be.

I dislike how the Genghis Khan scenario had Gandhi with glasses in (blergh laziness), but as far as the actual mission, I did like it, though it was truly frustrating and I've yet to beat it on Emperor...the time limit is absolutely nuts. And I love that.

Just my 2 cents.

For me the Denmark DLC was worth it just because it's Denmark. Scandinavian history has always interested me and I almost always play as the Vikings in the earlier Civs too :)

I like the DLC, I always liked the new civs in the expansion packs for the other generations. But, if core game play is all you care about then DLC is not really the best option, mods would be.

You got a valid point. I can certainly see how someone might enjoy the scenarios without really liking the base game.

I went ahead and bought all of the Civ's, didn't get the map packs however as I just random everything anyways. I for one am happy to pay for Spain, and I love their UA and UU's.... I may do nothing but play as Spain if I ever pick a civ instead of random. And the person above is right, she makes a great friend/enemy. I do enjoy the scenarios, I've found the viking one easy even on Diety but the other ones are challenging on most levels. I've yet to clear the New World one hitting the score, always just being highest at the end of the time limit and have yet to win as one of the Native tribes....

DLC will be worth it when Steam does a sale, or bundles them all together for a discount. I'd buy them, but not at their current prices.

For the cost of all the current DLC, I can buy a whole other game and play that. I'd like to get all the Civs (maps I don't care about) but the price will have to be right.

I have bought all of the dlc's and maps so far. In my opinion the additional civs that they introduce through the dlc's do add to the enjoyment of the game play. My current favorites to play are Spain, Mongols, Rome, England, Aztec, Denmark, and Polynesia. Also the addition of other leaders to play against adds to the variety of the game so it doesn't feel that you only see the same civs each game.

On the other hand the inability to use the maps in multi-player is just unacceptable.

In the end I feel that the cost is minimal and if buying helps to get their creative juices flowing to put out more civs and updates than otherwise then I'm okay with it.

I was originally not planning to buy them, but after a while I started looking for new experiences and the DLC civs ended up offering that. If you're still not excited about the core game, however, then I'd wait until a game of the year edition and/or a big steam sale.
