Are you the snobish type?

And on the way out, she probably told her friends, "I don't know much about art but I know what I like."
Actually, she got a pretty nice painting...

The article quite clearly states that the woman had never heard of the artist, but 'fell in love with the painting'. So that's really the polar opposite of what the first post here suggests.

I like the painting too, by the way. It isn't spectacular, but I wouldn't mind having it on my wall.

I like the painting too, but I would not pay 150 G, not even if I was a millionaire

This story makes me think of a friend of mine who is an art trader.

He bougth an 35.000 euro painting for 180 euros on an auction.

At his office, there was another painting of 30.000 behind it....

65.000 for 180.....

I f i was a millionare i would still be prudent with my money. For example i would always shop around for the cheapest price and would never waste money. I wouldn't be tight but would ensure that i would always remain rich. I'd rather have a flash car than a dodgy painting by an annoying TV presenter/artist.

I think that is a fantastic painting. I would buy it, but no artwork is worth more than $100 to me.

Yes, I am the snobbish type, but there is no way I'm telling you.

I know a professional photographer that goes to Italy all the time. He takes excellent photos, comes back home and filters them through Photoshop. Then he sells the prints for obcene amounts of $ to suckers. I wouldnt be surprised if this one was a photoshop baby too.

No, Rolf is more into wobbleboards than computers. Why do you think we exiled him to the other side of the world?

I finally read the article, and then I googled Rolf Harris a little. Never heard of him until this thread but he seems to have a pretty good career going. However his website almost made me take an ice pick to my eyes.

Rolfs an icon. I remember when I was younger watching him on the ABC at 6pm. He would paint these incredible paintings with just ordinary paint brushes you would use to paint your house with.

He's an amazing artist but like most Aussie celebs from the late 70's early 80's ( graham Kennedy, Barry crocker etc), he's unknown to the generation of today.

But an earlier generation knows him from his musical career. I didn't realize he was an artist until a few years ago.

I've always known him as both. I dont know which one he started first.

Ooh, I really like a lot of his artwork. Too bad that lady paid 94,775 pounds more than she had to. I wouldn't mind his prices for signed limited editions. After I have more money than I know what to do with, that is.

Can you see what it is yet? :ack:

Indeed. The youth of today know Jack Thompson only as a withered old man. Bill Hunter is still in every film, though.

doesn't anyone remember "Rolf's Cartoon Club?" fantastic late 80's tv... way better than that Hartbeat thing even if it did have Morph!
