Are you there?. A new PBEM match

I'm afraid that I inadvertently broke our game. I had added a MOD to my computer that not only affected this game, but another I was involved in.

I received some instructions on how to fix it, but it hasn't worked, in fact now my BtS and Civ won't open at all.

Sorry to dissapoint, but I would suggest getting the games before they were sent to me, and perhaps find a replacement.

Regrets,

Sarge

Sarge - reinstall isn't an option?

Tried - I'd have to buy Vanillia again.

I don't know if you all recall but the early CIV IV games that were released had some sort of bug in it, that screwed up installation - it kept asking for a disk that was already in, so the game never ran.

Anyway - a buddy got it to work some how using a No Cd EXE command or something.

I don't know how he did it - so I'm completely with out any version of Civ.

Well friends, no problem here, isn't?

We have, really, a no worrying choice to do here:

a) start a new game (we played... 7 turns....8....)
b) try to restore the game already started

I, personally, think that - all of we know about that - software bugs come from evil. And sometimes it's hard to solve them. And waste time.

Frank Zappa said, don't waste your time on me.

I think a) is ok.

I couldn't remember the game so I loaded up the last save provided. My immediate reaction ... no way am I giving up this start. It has all of my favorite tiles!

Here are my suggestions ...

  1. we find a replacement for Sarge85 (just need his password)
  2. someone opens Sarge85's latest save (again, need his password) and hits Alt-Q when they get into the game - that will 'retire' Sarge85 from the game and put his civ under the control of an AI - the pbem should then skip him (I haven't actually tested tihs but that is how I assume it will work)

oh - no password. You know that means that the player before you could look at your save. Anyway, everyone ok if Sarge85 sends the save to me and I 'retire' him from the pbem game?

My vote is for new game, I don't know how we will be going with no password...
Actually, this means that I can open Sarge's save, so it's bad think for me...
I don't like this kind of situations.....

I've just tested the following:

  • Set up a 3 man PBEM game
  • each player played 1 round
  • player #1 retired (alt-Q) on the second round
  • game generated save to send to player #2
  • player #2 played round as per normal
  • player #3 played round as per normal
  • game generated save from 'end of turn' for player #3 to send to player #2

So, player #1 was skipped in the 'email save' potion, but played by an AI. I think we should do this.

I'm ok if Burlicconi opens Sarge's save, hits Alt-Q and then sends the game on to who ever should get it next.

With PBEM games, you can expect some people to drop out. We had a utility for Vanilla and Warlords that could replace a human player with an AI. This Alt-Q (retire) feature just does the same thing. Don't expect that the same group of people that started a game will finish it. I haven't seen it happen.

excellent - lets do that. Thx Dazz

I've played before with Dazz and he is good value.

You can change your PBEM password ... open your save, hit escape and then 'your options' ... then change your password.

@Dazz - need your email

@burlicconi - pls email all saves to Dazz

@Sarge85 - who do you send your saves to?

I'm not at home right now, but the same thing didn't work for pitboss, but I'll try this again....
SO, whre are we now- Snowgood just jump in instead Sarge? Dazz?

Happy to see we can continue ;)
Thanks ruff_hi for taking the time to investigate.
About old Sarge's saves; Dazzt doesn't need them unless he wants to see Sarge's civ evolution.

Who sent saves to Sarge? Giraflorens, I think. He has now to send them to Dazz.

Where I come from, that usually means I'm good value for getting the crap kicked out of me ... yeah, your probably right :p

I've PM'd Burlicconi my email address.

I have changed passwords in other games I was a replacement in without any problems.
