argh, what's happening here?

guys, I seriously need some help. I just don't get it, I used to be really good at civilization and have played it for years. now after a few months away I'm back playing and have finished a billion games and I just keep getting one pitiful score after another! I always try to get a good sized population, I get to about future technology 30 by the time I'm done, launch my spaceship, keep my people happy and avoid war. but ever time I'm finished I end up with a score of about 60. I mean come on! I'd like to go out with remembered as a little more than "mike the forkbeard" after all. any suggestions on upping my crappy scorring? thanks

You are playing civ 2, not 3?
What level are you playing at? The lower the level, the lower the score.
Is your spaceship landing? You get 400 points toward your score when the ship (if its a full-sized ship with 40,000 citizens) lands.

hmmm, if by level you mean like the difficulty level (diety, warlord etc.) then I have it on the first one, which might explain a lot. my spaceship always makes it with 4000 colonists and I make sure it lands at 2019. well, if it's just a matter of difficulty level I'll go higher (though probably get my arse kicked ) .

oh, and yes I was referring to civ 2

Yes, at Chiefton level, a decent score is impossible. Don't let the difficultly levels bother you. With a little practice, you will be winning consistantly at diety level. Good Luck.

hmmmm, well thanks but I don't think I see a difference :? .I played it on king and found it to be nothing but a pain in the butt, I was doing almost as well as I was on diety but after about 9 cities, a few wonders, and 900 ad, my score was even worse, about 95. ah well, I guess you know what you're talking about though. still, if there's any other usefull game tips feel free to post 'em.

If playing on a higher difficulty was easy, then it wouldn't be rewarding. The whole point of the higher difficulty is that it IS a pain, but then the scores are multiplied to pay accordingly.

1) Try NOT to build any city improvement before 1AD (common mistake: build too many improvements too soon)
2) Try NOT to build more than one defender/city (common mistake: build too many military units too soon)
3) Buils CAMELS instead ... and TRADE! (try to get 3 trade routes in each city ASAP)

... and please don't play at chieftain level (you will improve your gameplay must faster if you play at higher difficulty levels)
