Which is the most influential in the game on a continental landscape in which every civ is on a different continent? Army, Navy or Air Force...

The army secures the ground. The navy moves and suport the troops. The air force it is just a backup force and come VERY later in the game...

But the most important of all it´s always the army. You can´t get cities with ships and planes... :D

Honestly, though my later-game experience is relatively limited, I'm not a huge fan of the navy OR the airforce thus far. Actually, I'm not too keen on the whole bombardment thing in general (though my governors seem to want these units ALL THE DAMN TIME). To get bombardment units to have my desired effects, I would have to use them in a LARGE tandem and then send the army in anyway. I know it's nice to use it to keep an enemy capital without roads and such, but that's really about it. I will use a smallish navy to transport troops to other continents D-Day style, but they just don't have the same kick for me as they did in Civ2.

I used to get hyped up when I saw a enemy navy units off my shores, but now I just keep a minimal navy to deal with these incursions and to intercept any transports. The roads and stuff can be rebuilt if they actually manage to bombard anything. Even mighty battleships can only bombard once per turn, and even then they still miss a bunch or just wound a defender. I find that I can take them out with destoyers if necessary.

I'd rather spend the shield on the most modern military units or an important improvement.

In my last game, I practically used my mighty naval fleets to bomb the coastal cities of Germany back to the Stone Age. It took some time to build but then I had been at war for some time so ...

Basically I dumped my ships together and then each turn, I'd move them in beside the enemy city, bombard, then move out of range again (of artillery). Using this way and a fleet of a couple of battleships and some more destroyers, bombarded a size 17 city to size 2 and destroyed all their city improvements, turning that city fr a brilliant city center into a husk of its former glory.

Got other fleets working on other cities. Noticed that in their continental campaign (I got other civs to help me on that continent), their invasion campaign ran outta steam. Probably cos I was destroying their cities and killing their ppl, discrupting production of their units.

Army#1 You need to occupy those cities with troops..and take out the non-castal cities. Plus, tanks are very entertaining.

Navy#2 Transport and bombardment. Also, Submarines are fun to tour around in a sink some unsuspecting ships!

Air Force#3 They have got to fix the air superiority bug. It could make the whole game a lot different.
