Hi All

Army units, is it possible to have different units to represent armies for each Civ?

The problem I've run into is the General settings tab in the editor, and the fact you need to specify a unit to be the Built army unit.

Anyone know of away round this?

Thanks

I have not tried this before, but it might be possible if you have several army units that upgrade to one another (that is: Spanish Army-->Roman Army-->English Army-->etc.) and make the first unit the build army unit ("Spanish Army" in the previous example), but only make one army buildable by each Civ, whereas usually the single army unit is buildable by all civs. This way when the game spawns an army, it picks the first unit that can be built by that civ.

I know that works with the Scout starting units, but it does not work with Settler and Worker starting units, and as I said I have no idea if it will work with armies...

Thanks

Ok let’s see if I understand this, the default general army unit that can be build by all civ’s would be the Spanish Army unit.
This unit would be upgradeable to the English army unit but which could only be build by the English Civ? And the English army unit would lets say upgrade to the Roman army unit again only buildable by the Romans... and so on?
Thus as the only upgrade flagged by that civ it builds the correct army for the right civ have I got this right?
Why must it be limited to only one army per civ? And if so what’s the easiest way to limit one army per civ?
Found this really interesting thread:

Yeah, you've got the idea I was talking about, but again, I've never tried it. The reason you could probably only have one army per civ is that the game would probably stop at the first unit in the upgrade chain that is available to that civ. That means that if the English had both the English AND Roman armies available to them in the editor, the game would just make any armies they built into English armies, since the Roman army comes later in the chain. But again, don't take my word for it, this is all hypothetical.

Hmmmm

ok well I'm just trying this with Battle created unit, a default unit which all gain with battle created. this does indead automatically upgraded ,but the unit it upgreads to needs to be already buildable thus you might as well just build the upgrade unit to start with...

Or a'm I missing something?

Well... Army units should only be build-able once you have the Military Academy, so even though you set them as available in the editor, they shouldn't be able to be built unless you have that Sm. Wonder.

Although, maybe only the unit specified as the "Build Army Unit" is unbuild-able without the Academy...

Hully:
There are 3 ways to build an army:

1. Using a leader, this is limited to 1 type of army as you have
noted in the general settings.

2. Building in a city using normal shield production. Here you may be
able to use non-era techs, say "Spanish Production" to limit a Spanish city
with the academy to produce only Spanish armies. I have not tried it
but can't think of any reason why it would not work.

3. Auto-produce them, create a wonder called the "Spanish Military Academy" which produces Spanish armies.
