Chapter 1: Introduction

Hello! I'm British demon, for those of you who cant be bothered with that many syllables Kyle will do just fine. Right, for a long time now I have been playing as the English on Civilization Revolution and thus over time have come up with a rather effective and efficient strategy. I will be sharing this with you in the rest of the thread so enjoy the read, I like to make my guides as pleasant to read as they are to put into action. Oh and please remember, this strategy has only been used by me in online multiplayer. I am unaware what the results of using this yields in single player.

Chapter 2: The General Grand Scheme of Stuff and Things!

This section will contain the basic overview of the strategy, for the lazy, and people who want to get on to their criticisms sooner rather than later.

The strategy I use for the English is very effective because it gives the user the ability to adjust their strategy to suit his/her situation accordingly. The main victories it focuses on are; Culture, Science (in rare cases, often is not needed), and Domination. Sadly this strategy cannot fully encompass the Economic side of the game which is a major problem but can be made into a minor one with good management and intelligent thought.

Early-Game:

With the English you can control the game in a number of different aspects. Personally, I like to focus on building my empire early game and defending my cities along with the edges of my territory very fiercely. This is made that little bit easier because of England's ancient era perk (+1 archer defense). Oh and remember to place at least one of your cities near some hills and/or mountains as this is extremely helpful later in the game.

Although another path you can take early game is the slightly more risky "Knight Rush", alot of people don't actually know this and I've seen people quit time and time again because you are only two techs into the game and have a Knight Army sitting quite happily outside their base, but yes as England you can get Knights very, very early.

So early on; I build up my technology, population, and culture whilst defending my borders and this sets me a solid foundation for one of my many remaining paths to victory. Also you must know early game you'll find if people figure that they are not getting past your "Uber-Archers" anytime soon and your not soaring off in one particular victory they will be alot less aggressive with you, giving you an even bigger advantage when you unleash your sleeping lion of a Civilization.

Mid-Game:

So here we are mid-game (industrial era), by now I usually have around 3 cities (be it by settling, culture flipping, or even capture if I grab a city with my Knight Rush) and I'm set to begin my path to victory. Usually at this stage I'd lay off the other Civilizations a little and start building up my technology and culture. I'm usually in total and complete control of the sea's (perhaps having a few skirmishes if Spain are loitering around because we both have +1 Naval Combat) and have Atlantis. Remember show absolutely no mercy for other Civ's ships, sink them immediately and let your enemies know their place, if they try to attack your cities in revenge, bring a portion of your fleet to the desired city to provide the seriously under-rated and powerful Naval Support.

Also at this stage, your culture should be massive this is extremely beneficial on your home defense front because you can see your enemies attacks coming and have a good while to bring in your fleet and prepare for the battle. Also they can't heal in your territory which is always a good thing. Try to build a few minor cities near your enemies cities to further expand your empire via the also under-used and under-rated culture flip.

End-Game

Okay, the time has come to surprise and conquer your enemies with the mighty force of the English military. By now you've built workshops and factories for production which is absolutely necessary for a powerful Army, Navy, and Air-Force. Now the path you choose next is totally optional; continue with culture and build the united nations, win that way? Or annihilate your enemies with your military?

My personal preference is the domination path to victory. Imagine your opponents reaction when you emerge from the foggy sea's with a battleship fleet than can provide 50+ damage to your land troops (Due to England's doubled Naval Support). This, along with your usual late game units backed up by spies will be pretty much unstoppable if they don't see it coming, which they shouldn't. Repeat this process on all the other Civs? Or do it all simultaneously? The choice is yours, and why? Because you have made it possible for yourself to make the choice with superior tactics, thought, and adaptability, with a dash of absolute ruthlessness.

Chapter 3: To be continued in great depth.

*** Thank you for reading my guide thus far, remember that was only a short description of the strategy and their are many more things to cover before this strategy can be fully mastered. Keep and eye on this thread, I'll be updating it every few days.***

Hi, I posted this on the 2K forums and it has had some success. I've been loitering around on these forums for a while and this is my first post so I hope you guys enjoy the read! This forum is to popular not to post on, figured I'd share this to a wider audience. Not sure if this is new or old to you guys though but make of it what you will and constructive criticism only please.

Cheers!
British demon.

You didn't say anything about dye. I usually explore the world to find a spot with 2 dyes directly workable. If you settle your free settler there and rush a library with the money, you're getting a hot early science city. You can focus on growth and production in the capital and pump out settlers.

Having only 3 cities in the middle game is quite risky against agressive expanders.
