Disclaimer: Forgive mi harsh english.. i really really need more practice.
Ok, so this was awesome.
I don't usually comment on this forums, but i'm myself an avid reader, and latelly i noticed there is nothing more than complains against ciV AI.
I'd admit that te AI have some problems (ok, some mayor problems), but ciV is an immensely huge game, and patches are coming.
But i want to add my little experience to show you there is still some hope for the AI in the game.
I was playing as Caesar Augustus and have a clear dominance over my continent, the only other mayor power was the Songhai. When i reached the later stages of the game i found myself with only one reserve of uranium, in the far north limits of my empire, near endless plains of ice, and solitude, and death.
So, this little ***ker Askia settled a City in the middle of the ice, next to my borders. Then started to bring tanks across the northern oceans... my first assumption: he was setting a foothold for war.. stupid Askia, he was no match for my armies and was showing me all his war movements.
But what followed was 100% awesome AI strategy, Askia bringed a Great Artist to my borders... culture bombed my Uranium and.. Walla!.. the little mother***r leave me uraniumless...
Seeing and AI movilizing a Settler, taking a sterile land (only ice, remember), bringing tanks to prevent possible retaliation and culture-bombing my uranium restored my faith in Civilization V computer opponents.
