I was shocked that there was no thread for this game already. I myself think that this was the best new game of 2007. But now here is the thread so feel free to discuss.

I have it on PS3 and absolutely love it. Some critics have said that it is repetitive and short (yeah, you can probably finish it quickly if you just rush through the game), but I have played it a lot and still haven't finished the storyline. And I have never been stuck with it. I just keep finding myself climbing around the cities, which are huge. So the main thing of the game is controlling Altaïr, a member of some Assassins' order and assassinating people in the Holy Land during King Richard's crusades. But before each assassination you must do some "investigating" by completing little missions, and most of the time playing the game goes with them. Doing the little side missions like saving citizens and climbing up to "view points" (basically high towers) is fun and sometimes I just challenge them guardians to a little fight. :) The graphics are stunning and the smoothness and flexibility of moving around by climbing on just anything you can think about. The area is enormous, with three big cities, one smaller town and a massive area between the cities consisting of small villages and routes. I think Assassin's Creed is one of the top 10 games I've ever played.

I've mentioned Assassin's Creed a few times in other threads. Great game, great graphics. It's a much more enjoyable game if you eschew the stealth and hiding mechanics in favor of outright combat. With some practice, it becomes a fairly trivial matter to take on a dozen or more guards at once, especially with skill and health boosts. I was able to attain the Xbox achievement called "Eagle's Challenge," which requires you to slay something like 25 guards in a single fight, very easily by mid-game. And of course, the storyline missions are particularly simple if you have a good grasp of combat.

I'm actually contemplating writing a Combat Guide for Gamefaqs, if I get a chance.

Combat is really easy. Just counter with the hidden blade and you win every fight nearly instantly.

And I once led over 50, from counting the bodies after words, guards on a chase through Acre. I murdered them all.

Hmm, dont think i agree that its best to favor combat over stealth. To me, the genious of the game lays in using all the info you gathered, and plan the perfect assassination where you remain undetected until your target is dead. Although that could be pretty difficult on many missions. But i too loved the game on my ps3, the story was just awesome imo. It was probably the best game i played last year, and i cant wait for the sequel. Btw, you can counter with your hidden blade?? I never tried that!

I preferred combat over stealth mainly because it was exciting as well as graphically flashy. Nothing will give you the taste of Altair's amazing skills like walking away unscathed after piling up the bodies of a dozen guards in a plaza.

Some of the missions are particularly fun done stealthily, however, such as the first Acre mission.

Draw your sword, lock on, switch to hidden blade and hold down the blocking button and when they hit at you counter. Insto kill. I personally like the four punches then stab in the lower jaw animation.

i found the hardest part of that acheivement was getting 25 guards into a single fight, ive got all but the king richard flags and the all dialogue with lucy acheivements

Meh, I perfer eather games set in the Modern or Sci Fi eras.

Low replayability.

Though in fairness, most console games (at least on the Xbox 360) don't offer compelling reasons to replay them outside of getting additional achievements.

I play Team Fortress 2 for the laughs, not for the achievements. There are also several other examples.

I play similar multiplayer games for similar reasons. But you were referring to Assassin's Creed's single player element, and my point still stands: there are few games out there whose single-player campaigns warrant additional replays.
