It would be better as an independent power given its population.

Honestly any "too low population" takes have always been in the losing position given the series have long featured NA tribes which population ranged between like 10 - 50 thousand (Iroquis, Shoshone, Sioux in civ2, iirc Cree)... Civ4 tried to circumvent this by the abomination known as "Native American" civ combining all of them, but it was agreed such cure is worse than the disease :p

Zulu kingdom, Maori, Mapuche and Venice also had population sizes of like few hundred thousands, so not that much better.

Small, maybe, but seeing as they are responsible for a lot of how we perceive the Norse today (the Eddas, the Althing, and above all else the transatlantic exploration and colonization - all Iceland!), they punch way above their weight. A more than reasonable inclusion.

And also, I'm starting a new campaign for Snorri Sturluson, politician, lawspeaker, historian and preserver of norse history and mythology to be a leader.

Besides the Ottomans in the middle, this very much sounds like a naval-themed pack.

Between the Piracy Republic and two pirate-themed leaders, they seem to fit pretty well. The Ottomans were very influential in the Mediterranean naval theater for a time, in large part due to privateers/pirates.

It would be better as an independent power given its population.

This, again, applies even more to the Pirate Republic, so why are you complaining about Iceland instead if these are things you have a problem with?

- Sayyida al Hurra: very interesting and desreving character, from Morocco, fits many civilizations, plus second Muslim character also being woman :D (anti woke losers shall cry a lot)

Don't most anti-woke people also hate on Islam for being oppressive to women though? I would expect them to enjoy that male Muslims are passed up on for women.

Or maybe it's just because the anti-woke crowd is basically the radicalized form of my own views on these things, leading to me expecting too much reason from them...

Not sure what I think of the Pirate Republic. Read up on their Wikipedia article real quick, they're definitely interesting. Might be weird to head them for an entire Age though, when they were more of a (mostly) lawless wild west-esque 'state' that only existed until someone decided to enforce order again.

I am surprised how little am I offended by the idea of the Pirate Republic civ, as I'm usually "no fun allowed" history guy

Maybe because that opens the door for some amazing leaders such as Blackbeard, Hayreddin Barbarossa, Francis Drake, Anne Bonny (female), Ching Shih (bonus points for the very rare opportunity to get legit female Chinese leader), Grace O'Malley (also female, bonus point for fantastic one of a kind Irish/Celtic leader) etc.

Now that I said it I am kinda sad I would see only one of them at best... I need civ7 pirate modpack with all of them plus some more :p

(obligatory joke addition to such modpack, on top of all historical characters: Captain Jack Sparrow, with his movie quotes in diplomacy and movie soundtrack for his civ)

I have fantastic news for you regarding who Edward Teach is

VERY happy with Tonga and Maori, VERY unhappy with Atomic Age. If it doesn't have its own Civilization list, fine, but if it does...

What if the Asia Wonders pack is included with Right to Rule
That's it probably, because those 4 civs and leaders have been Asia-oriented.

Pirate Republic
Sounds like a familiar option. Though the "culture" naming helped there as it's easy to argue for a specific culture developed among the pirates a bit harder to sell people on a "pirate civilisation".

That’s my reasoning as well. What wonders do you think they include though

Now that I’m done dramatically flinging objects across the room due to the implication of Age 4, I’m rather happy with the civ selection… looks like a fun lineup! It’s also encouraging that none of them scream “Atomic Age exclusive,” a point against an additional switch. Though a naval pack that includes the Pirate Republic over the Swahili almost feels like it’s mocking me… they did give me the relatively obscure Tonga, though, and pirates probably sell, so that’s the sacrifice you make. (It is sort of funny that my reaction to more marketable civs paired with less famous ones is the inverse of Firaxis’s idea of the average customer - I bet me and the average YouTube commenter would have a very different idea of what the “necessary evil” would be in a pack making you purchase Portugal and a local ancient weaving culture from the desert of modern day Peru simultaneously)

Probably wonders associated with these new additions or civs they'll add later

We know the additions are Qajar, Silla, Dai Viet & Assyria. I assume Assyria already has a world wonder added to the game (Dur-sharrukin), and we have Emile Bell for Korea. So probably something from the Qajars & Dai Viet. Than 2 other wonders which i guess could be Hagia Sophia & Taq Kasra (for Sassanids). But this is very hard to predict.

I would need a world map of the current world wonders in the list tbf.

Also i wonder how they'll do civilisations they add such as Nepal also, given they've not announced they'll add world wonders. If they don't, than a Nepal world wonder would also make sense.

EDIT: I wish they would just add four natural wonders and four world wonders for these DLC packs. I'm dying for Ha Long Bay tbh. That's such a great natural wonder. And we will be seeing Mount Everest (Nepal) soon too.

The wonders are included with the Civs also Hagia Sophia would probably be used for when they add Byzantium

Taq Kasra would be cool though. Maybe the Gur-e Amir?

Current game I’m playing is already shaping up to be so long I have to wonder at the benefits of a fourth age. But as long as no new civilizations and all the political issues that come with them arrive with it, then fine.

Pirate Republic and Iceland are major curveballs. But honestly I’m kinda into it. Why not? This game is going to have a really long lifespan so let’s have fun with it. Perhaps Arawak/Carib -> Taino -> Pirate Republic lol.

So that means we get 8 wonders in that pack?

Gur-e-amir seems like a solid bet.

What asian wonders do we currently have???

The only thing I’m disappointed about is lack of Viking content
