Assyria and Bulgaria feel overpowered. The rest of the Civs should too.

Yeah, I just finished another game with them and they're one of my favorites too. They seem quite strong to me if you do even just a minimum amount of city planning around their UI (and if I can do it on Deity, anybody can). I'm kind of shocked people are talking about them getting buffed TBH.
They do definitely have drawbacks. The lack of settlement limit is a really big one. But I think the city/town meta change was pretty good to them. They didn't get hit as hard by it for sure...

They have a unique endeavor "Help the League" which they can use influence to tell City States to provide assistance. This takes the form of making that City State count as another type for bonuses that key off of multiple states (ie. they can make an economic city state act as an economic city state AND a militaristic city state).
Didn’t the devs say that they made an exception for Greece and they still ignore city state types? Though, I like this version better.

If so, I missed it. Maybe in the next patch? That would be an excellent rebalance for Greece, but I like the unique endeavor as it feels more active.

I meant to check this in my last game with Greece but forgot to actually run the numbers. The UI for sure doesn’t mention this, though.

I agree and luckily, I think this is the way they're moving forward design-wise. Some of the new ones have been a little nothing like Dai Viet but both Tonga & Pirates break the rules in big exciting ways (and same story with the Egypt buff honestly!!)

No, they said that Greek bonuses (like the combat strength on hoplites) do not require a specific city state type. Which makes the hoplites a really strong unit when you lean into that.

But City state bonuses work for Greece the same way as they do for everyone else. Greece would be insanely overpowered if that was not the case.

Yeah, I'm really excited to see that the "bonus to [blank]" Civ features are being replaced by "break the rules" features.

Just want to mention that Tecumseh's tradition that gives combat strength per city state behaves the same as Greek hoplites. Number of IP suzerained matters, not type.

Edit- Ability, not tradition.
Yes, his mementos and innate abilities key off all city states, as do the Hoplites. I've seen commentary that this represents a buff for him and the Greeks, but I think the opposite - he and they both get significantly less benefit from what use to really be their dominant strategy.

It's still a winning strategy despite the changes and I still think Tecumseh is one of the best leaders. Getting the warehouse bonuses up and especially the +3 food on food buildings can snowball quickly. Then you can just buy your military and take on everyone with the combat bonus.

I was excited to hit level 9 with him today so I can try his war club memento to bring this bonus to other leaders.
