At what point do you throw in the towel?

Funny picture, actually.
35 turns and I already ragequit.

I failed to see the joke.

I typically quit if I lose my OC or C2, or the game gets boring. I don't like to win by relying on the AI playing really badly in the late game.

Yeah I'm not seeing it either.

Perhaps I just don't think that giving up on a game that's designed around you solving problems is that funny and actually rather sad.

PLM:
If you insist on playing Civ 5 (although I would point out that your posts seem to indicate that you might want to reconsider that position) then you really do need to get to the WarAcademy and learn some of the basics. This game is stupendously easy once you know how to play it. Giving up constantly however teaches you nothing and rewards even less.

What are the settings for the save? And does it have DLC? (I'm at work so can't unpack it from here)

I'm willing to bet that most posters in this thread can play that through to victory without too much trouble, as could you if you could be bothered. Which, from your previous posts, appears to me to be 90% of the problem.

Never. Mexico knows they can't win, but they're still a nation.

Remember the Alamo?

On topic: quite early to be honest. Whenever I see there are no luxury resources near me, or that the enemy suddenly decided to bumrush me, I ragequit/reroll.

Rerolling because you believe that the starting area isn't exactly promising used to be an integrated feature. I think everyone does this at somepoint.

Ragequitting is simply giving up because you want to throw your toys out of your pram.

Regularly giving up games to the point where you've never actually completed one at normal setting is just...well, I can't think of an adjective that conveys the appropriate amount of disdain and stays within forum rules really.

I'm currently playing a game where i have an overwhelming feeling that there's no way that i'm gonna pull it out. i'm new to civ5 and i was just curious as to when you guys realize you aren't gonna win and just throw in the towel?

What is this "losing" you speak of? I don't understand.

Just kidding. I'll often be a big baby and quit if someone beats me to the Great Library (or any of my other tier one wonders, which is quite a few). I don't worry about score too much because on Emperor and above, the AI's advantages often turn up in the score but it's still very possible to quietly build up to a culture win (or amass the cash for a diplomatic on the rare occasions I forget to disable that victory condition).

Truth be told, I usually throw in the towel for the opposite reason. The last two games I played through to the modern era, cemented my advantage and fortified my nation so well that I didn't see the point in clicking "next turn" fifty more times to get to the victory condition.

But the enemy bumrushes EVERY SINGLE time.

I only just started playing immortal (England, Huge, Small continents) so I'll have to find another way to deal with bumrushes. It's just so hard to rush compas, build the Great Lighthouse, expand and keep your landarmy up to date all at the same time.

I'm experimenting with the strategies necessary to win a Wonder Free Game on King. Losing all but one of these games so far has improved my gameplay far more than WW-supported wins. My opinion is that you can learn more from a well-played loss than you can from an easy win. I only abandon a game when it becomes clear early on that I'm going to win big.

Never. Mexico knows they can't win, but they're still a nation.

Mexico is hanging on for sure because their citizens can work in the US and send a big chunk of change home. While American workers can't find a job to save their ^%$! American companies go south of the border and can pay Mexican workers $2.67 an hour, enough to keep the Mexican economy going, while again hurting the US economy. The US has been holding up Mexico for years. Americans buying drugs. Mexicans selling em' DAMN the whole thing is getting old!
