ATI Graphics Card Owners: PLEASE READ

    If it doesn't work for you, it's your own fault for buying an ATI grafics card, and not NVidia like you should have in the first place.

    Why would I want an NVidia? I prefer the most capable cards on the market, ATI makes them. I also don't like NVidias sales tactics, dropping support on perfectly capable cards on newer games to force people to buy new cards.

    If you want to drink the Kool-Aid, go ahead, but I prefer to be something other than a mindless drone :scan: .

    DirectX 9 installed from Civ4 CD

    Attempt One:
    Driver: Original driver
    Status: Cheshire Cat/Black Land problem

    Attempt Two:
    Driver: Omega drivers
    Status: "Failed to Initialize Renderer"

    Attempt Three:
    Driver: Catalyst 5.10 driver
    Additional: Art0.pak Fix
    Status: Cheshire Cat/Black Land problem

    Update: Attempt Four:
    Driver: Catalyst 5.10 driver
    Additional: Art0.pak Fix, Reveal Map Fix
    Status: Playable, but no land appears visible (ie. explored but not in LoS).
    Drawbacks: All land visible, Cheshire cat problem likely persistent (didn't check).

    Notes: Laptop, thus can't replace graphics card.

    Just installed and played today. Had no problems whatsoever.

    windows xp home
    ~3 ghz P4
    1024 mb ram
    200 gig hard drive
    ati radeon x700 pro 256mb ddr

    original status:
    *failed blah blah blah renderer blah blah*

    i did the fix that take2games recommended via a recording on phone support:
    -remove ati graphics driver
    -download catalyst driver v5.10 from ati.com
    -reboot (and reset monitor resolution to 1024*768)
    -install drivers
    -reboot (and reset monitor resolution to 1024*768)


    sucCESS!! works just fine, no cheshire cat or black land issues - now i just have to convince myself i really need to go to sleep tonight

    Moderator Action: Ok - thanks for the info, people. I think its been useful for Firaxis.

    I'll unsticky this thread now. For those of you having problems, please have a look at this thread. Its recognised that that suggested fix doesn't solve problems for Windows 2000 users, but there is a fix for them on the way.
