ATI USERS!!!! Install Catalyst 4.10 driver

this is soooo cool, i can alt-tab, ventrilo, winamp, msn, everything and game stays stable, AWESOME ROCKET FAST, no crashes, and nothing, woooohoooo :))) long live conservativeness :))
 
I can even discover Satalites on a huge map now and the game stays ROCKET FAST, no scrolling delays, no problems, all map visible :))) so anyone who is desperate as I WAS!!! install the older 4.10 ATI drivers, it helped me 100% :)
 
proof of stability, I added a screenshot were you can see i have full map view, huge(or large, playing on german version so don't know exactly what this would be in english, but its big enough) MSN running, Coreldraw(very performance eating proggy) ventrilo and using alt-tab all the time
 
bug problem solved(or it never was a bug in the first place but all was graphic driver related) when someone asked me for assistence, i tried to move my mouse over the other players on the right side of the screen to view my diplomatic points with the others..it never worked..i couldnt check on them..now with the older 4.10 drivers victoria ask me to reject my trade with the greeks...and WOOHOO i can check now my stats with the greeks!! screenshot added as proof. btw, during this writing online im still playing, switching screens, loading and editing in corel, etc etc, no crashes, no errors, etc etc..I would say to all of you, give it a try and deinstall your latest drivers and install the 1,5year old drivers..they are MY solution :)
 
One question:

What is your graphic card?
Has anyone tried these drivers with Radeon 7500/ Mobile 7500? I get white/ bright yellow terrain, correct colours in one specific zoom :crazyeye: and bread only resources with my M 7500 64MB (that card is specifically stated as minimum requirement and yet CIV deosn´t work with it correctly :mad: )
 
I've got a Radeon 9800 Pro and when I was using the 5.10s I would occasionally get graphics errors and CTDs but with after installing 4.12s last week its been absolutely fine.
 
it could be video card+driver related tho,

i can run the game fine with 9600XT, but i cant alt tab, and im so scared to trade maps. i guess i'll take a try
 
tried the old drivers but gave me funny new problems. like i didnot see the resolution options anymore in starting civ4. again it crashed and rebooted.
using got a x800 and my cpu is an amd athlon mobile and i think thats related to the problem.
 
hmmm, ok, so for you both the later 5.xx as the 4.xx drivers don't work? but you dont get the CTD anymore right? anyway..the resolution options are not THAT important, you can change them in the ini file..
as for the rebooting, i only got it from the 5.xx drivers...so maybe theres some problem not just with the drivers but the combination of driver/card/processor etc etc..maybe it's all just the combination..which is bad, because i wanted to buy a new videocard for my wife so she could play too, but now i dont know if its a smart move to buy her a radeon 9800 too, because maybe it still wont work on hers ...damn
 
wow - this actually worked...didnt expect it to but now its stopped crashing i can actually start a game on a huge/large map. I can now see roads and i can see developments. this thread made my day.

Had latest Catalysts, and rolled back to 4.1.

Had a late-game save, lots going on, which used to CTD with old drivers. Managed to complete it last night - I'm not saying the change in drivers could 100% be the reason why it worked ... but it definitely seemed to be a) more stable and b) a bit quicker. :goodjob:

you're very welcome! i was searching myself for 2weeks for a solution and was downgrading hours and hours the drivers step by step to found the 4.10 most stable ones..i agree the 4.12 are a bit faster...though i got some strange "lines" in the globalview while completely outzoomed...so I just stick to the 4.10 drivers :) but basically, the 4.12 might be a bit faster, and if you can live with some lines..maybe others dont even see the lines...everyone should try the best drivers for themself i think :)

DID you, first DEINSTALLED your 5.xx drivers??? this is VERY IMPORTANT!!! if you don't properly deinstall...some DLL will not be removed and won't be overwritten by the 4.10 version!!

it's the first review i know wich is critical about civ 4.(from the apolyton site).
in the "memory leak" forum harkonnon is talking about trying to create his own patch and makes it clear the crashes are not a video drivers issue.

LOL :) I am very frustrated by this game..and most of all, by it's lack of ....hmm, options..there are less options in civ4 as in civ3...basically..it's a set-back in the strategy-playing..no automated bombards, no bombards units, airforce has fewer options, naval has fewer options..no airfields..i.d expect more options, like airforce with automated reconnaisance, with several options added, like passiv patrol, activ patrol(attack enemie with different weapens, frontal attack(meaning it can be shot down) or torpedo attack, small chance of hitting but from distance so plane cannot be shot down) etc etc..i'd expect a true reconnaisance only airplane..enable to fly automated reconnaisance over 20tiles or so, with MEGA Stealth, just 0,1% chance of hitting it..training camps as improvement..where you can train different improvement for the units as addition to the experience upgrade..now units can get +20defence on hills, but there should be a training camp for such things too..UN? to few resolutions..they should have been 20times more active to think about usefull resolutions...and and and..there is so much left out and so few new to the game...but ok, the performance is much better..and the graphics...but that's all...im very dissappointed..and I hope this game will add the above mentioned options in next upgrades to come..and i hope they come within 2 or 3 months, else this game was the biggest mistake i've ever made..as it is now..it's fun to play too...i agree...but worth only 10dollar or so..it's not worth the 50dollar!!

Because the 9 stands for September and the 10 stands for October. The 5 stands for 2005, by the way.

Do not confuse these: 4.1 = January 2004 vs. 4.10 = October 2004

The latest are 5.10 = October 2005
