atrocities or not?

Never unless I save before and reload after :). But it doesn' mean that I don't produce nukes ;).

For the first several years I never commited any atrocities, except once. I was at the very end of the game as the University. I had managed to go the entire game without once getting into a vendetta. Then someone declared war on me, and within 5 turns EVERY OTHER FACTION HAD FORMED PACTS WITH EACH OTHER (except for two factions, which had a treaty with each other, and pacts with everyone else) and declared vendetta against me. I started producing a singularity planet buster at each of my bases per turn. Within 10-15 turns, there were no enemy cities within about 20 spaces of my island.

More recently, I learned that you can use everything against PB against the Progenitors without anyone (besides your victim) getting mad at you. Since then, when I fight against the aliens, I go hog-wild with nerve gas and bio-warfare.

Just this week I've started playing on Trancend difficulty, and I was sooooo tempted to start gassing the Hive. (They had the Monsoon Jungle.)

No matter what, I try to keep the UN charter in place. The economic penalties are worth making the computer much less likely to use them against me.

Staple them all, I say! And I'm not afraid of using my planet busters either.

I have purposly gone to war with someone to Planet Buster their entire empire... I have repealed the UN charter before but now I find more productive ways other then giving my units atrocity capability and having to bribe some AIs to win.

Exatly. It's so much more fun to do things "properly" than to just nerve staple and planet bust your way through the game...

But if you're going up against the Hive, and they have 2-3 times as many bases as you (most of which are in the Monsoon Jungle), you have the same tech levels (Particle Impactors & Plasma Steel), and they're invading you right now, Nerve Gas pods go a long way towards saving your ass.

Very good point
I always hate it when they do that...

i dont have smac anymore, but i remember using planet busters, especially with the factions i dont like.the only thing that would bother me is that i would play the gaians the most, and then destroy the whole planet so it wouldnt make much sense in the end.

I was the Peacekeepers.

I was playing nice with EVERYONE for over 300 years!

I had a PACT with everyone.

I was the only faction on the entire southern hemisphere and had colonized, terraformed and assumed control of it all. EVERY SINGLE SQUARE!

I had discovered every single technology, and the Transcendent Though was in the twenties.

I had over 100 THOUSAND credits.

I was Planetary Leader, and everyone had voted for me, even the opposition.

I never had one vendetta.

I was so nice I had given all of my technology to every other faction, and even gave some money to the Gaians after they nearly lost a war.

I had every base faculty in all of my bases (except Punishment Sphere)

I built EVERY SINGLE SECRET PROJECT in my capital city! I was just in the middle of building "Ascent to Transcendence"

________________________________________________________________________

Then, one turn, SOMEONE (even though everyone had a pact or treaty with each other at the time) did an atrocity against the Gaians by stealing some money from them.

They FRAMED ME!

Deidre declared war on me, and all the other factions declared war on me!

The Believers, when I was TWO turns from finishing the Ascent and winning the game, and after everyone but me agreeing to repel the UN Charter, PLANET-BUSTED MY CAPITAL (and about 16 other cities on my mainland)!!!!!!!!!!

All my secret projects were destroyed!

I was NOT building up my military because I was only 12 turns away from finishing the game through Transcendence when the war started!
________________________________________________________________________

So I spent all my money building dozens of Planet-busters and literally busted the entire planet and destroyed every other faction, and won through conquest.

****************************************************************

I was SO close though to winning perfectly, with every project, majority of Planet's territory, all entirely terraformed, every tech, every base-faculty, wihout ONE war!

How can someone NOT do what I did in my situation!!!

@ben_07
I really feel with you, man. But if you had 100,000 credits, you should've bought the Ascent to Transcendence. I always do it, and my record bank account is only 20,000.

Edit: DOn't forget that the earlier you finish the Ascent, the better score you get.

all I can say is "hahahahahahahaahahahhahahahahaaa" and damn, that must of sucked!

The only time I have ever used planet busters is when Sister Miriam wiped three of my cities. I used twelve busters and wiped her off the face of the planet. Just because I don't use them, I still build them. They're great at deterring an attack.

necro much? the last post was over FIVE YEARS ago.

and my 2c. Stapling is pretty useless, since if your colony grows and produces a new citizen that becomes a drone - he doesn't gain the nerve staple bonus, and you have to hit em again. It's pretty good for getting newly captured colonies under control though.
