Attack chopper as air unit conept

First why I want attack chopper to be air unit: it should be interseptable and should have small radius of action.

How to do it:
give it bomabard ability between fighter and jet fighter.
give it transport capacity 1 or 2 with carry footsoldier only.
Create unit TOW missile - bombard like cruise missile, range 2-3, immobile, footsoldier, cruise missile, loadable, defence 1(so not captureable)

Now chopper can bring TOW missile near target and next turn TOW shoot ! If we remove immobile from TOW it would be good for infantry support also.

The minus: we have HIND as result, not Apachy, because the only attack chopper carring troops is HIND (that why it's called flying APC)
 
I tried this concept when the chopper unit first come out. Here is the problems :

You can give the chopper movement points like transport heli and the AI will use it as air transport but the AI will not move it far from the city because eventhough air unit can attack a land unit or sea unit (not bombard but attack), it cannot defend against a land unit (remember how the air units in a city are destroyed when you capture the city?). So if a land unit attack it then its just one touch and the chopper is dead (even if the land unit is a warrior as defense value is not considered here). And I am sure no one want their chopper to be killed by a warrior right? (Look at all those complaints on spearman killing tanks, we don't another spearman killing heli stroy :lol: )

Of course a human player will know how to use a unit like this very well. Just like the old Civ2 way, fly out, attack and fly back or you are as good as dead. But since the AI won't use it the game will become very imbalance :(

What I did is make it a land unit with high attack (same as modern armor so it can work as a tank killer) but lower defense (lower than modern armor, I give it 12), a reasonable bombardment, 1.5 time the movement of modern armor and of course blitz. And I did not give it transport capacity but I do give it rebase ability just like air units so it can counter any threat anywhere fast. And I set the unit as attack and bombard so its the most powerful and fast attack unit in my own mod ;)
 
Hmm, in this case I'll be better without gunship alltougether. I'll just give bombers airdrop cruise missile ability...

So the game only looks at air units' defence value when the enemy does an air raid on the city where the unit is located, right?
I think Firaxis should change this. The planes' defence value is very low (Bomber/ Fighter/ Heli have 2, Jet Fighter/F-15 have 4). I think an F-15 could even take down a swordsman without taking off;)
 
I am pretty sure a F15 cannot take down a swordsman without taking off. Of course, the pilot can kill the swordsman with his pistol but that is not the F15 itself.
