So it may be an innocent mistake, but it may be an innadvertant clue!

http://www.civanon.com/atrisk.shtml

This links to the civanon webpage, a sort of joke page that firaxis created to help fans curb their civ "addictions." They mention Attila as a Civ dictator along side Ghengis Khan.

Does this mean that the Huns are one of the Civs in Beyond the Sword?
:goodjob:

I would really like to see the Huns and Attila be added in BtS. As fas as I know, the Huns have never been in Civ. I could be mistaken, though. If they havn't, I wonder why? Their empire was one of the biggest of all time. Any thoughts?

Well, Huns were just Asian barbarians who decided to ride to Europe and burn everything in sight. Maybe that's why they aren't a civilization.

I believe that "Hun" is the name of one of the barbarian cities. I definately recall it being a barbarian tribe in CivIII.

Or was it Atiila as a Tartar? No? OK I think you meant his appearence in RFRE where he posed as a mongloid! Ether way, in BtS Attila will be there to play because lets face it, everyone loves Attila and the Huns!

That site hasn't been updated since the Civ IV release so I doubt it contains any clues about BtS. Thanks for the link though. :)

I think Attila the Hun was just a generic example.

But the Huns would be an awesome civ. Maybe a Knight replacemant 'Raider'?

I think you mean Medival mod. Fresh out from CIv3 C n'C oven and by some ol legends ITs like the sequal to Anno Domini, A natural progression of sorts . (incls. sceanrio and random epic)

THese great Modders have weaved Attila into both mods. In Anno Dommini Atitila is the big Hun then he reincarnates into a Tartar cuz the Huns get culturaly assimilated by M.A :)

Have fun Complete Pedia for every single entry and 100% error free bytheway ;)

The Huns don't deserve to be a civilization in that they were more responsible than any other barbarian tribe for destroying the greatest civilization that ever existed. Basically, they show up in Eastern Europe around the 370's, pushing the Goths and other tribes westward. Goths enter Roman territory, beat Valens at Adrianople, pillage, and finally are admitted as federates.

Attila rampages across Western Europe later in the 5th century, until he's stopped at Chalons by Aetius in 451. He looks at Rome briefly around 453, I believe it was, but supposedly is stopped by Pope Leo. After that, he dies basically of overindulgence, and the Huns just kind of drop off the face of the earth.

Having said that, they'd be great for a scenario.

Didn't the Huns finish off the Western Roman Empire? They were superb horseman and were kind of like the ancient Mongols. I don't think they deserve a spot though just because they weren't really a civilization, but really just barbarians.

No. Attila retreated back to Hungary after he pillaged Northern Italy. Pope Leo was susposed to had convinced him to leave Rome alone.

After Attila, the Huns broke up and was absorbed into surrounding cultures. Their glory days lasted less than half a century.

:) Thanks for reminding me how much I miss those era-updating leaderheads.

Except for bald Joan. Yeah, that's what you get for researching nuclear physics.

I totally think they should make it in...who cares if they were "barbarian" as some people claim. They're one of the most recognizable and completely bad a$$ groups of people out there. Probably would have been a better fit in Warlords, BUT Babylon is is BtS, so why not the HUNS!

MWAHAHA

Be awesome if barbarians in BtS would be a menace like the mind worms in Alpha Centauri. Like it could get so bad that all the civs ally with you to destroy the evil empire of Attila the Hun (barbarians).

Maybe they could use Attila as the Barbarian leader head and he can demand things like tribute in exchange for his barbarians leaving your kingdom alone.

Also I forgot that the Pope reasoned with them, but its just been so long since I've played the campaign in Age of Empires 2. ;)

There would have to be multiple barbarian leaders. Wouldn't it get boring to have Attila every single time?

werent the Huns the Mongolians? or very near the same thing

No. The Huns were a branch of the Xiongnu which terrorised the Han Empire for a while till they were defeated. Then other tribes arrived to fill their place. The Mongols inhabited the same area but they came a millenium later.
