In my game, certain automate functions won't work - 'Clean Pollution Only' (Shift+P) and 'Clear Jungle Only' (Shift+J). All the other automate functions work fine... am I missing something?

I know I shouldn't automate, and I usually don't other than cleaning pollution (I'd automate 6 or 12 workers late in the game to 'keep existing improvements', and they would take care of the pollution). But now I'm in a map with tons of jungle and it's pissing me off.

FYI I have the version with Conquests+PlayTheWorld

Do you have polution/jungle for the workers to clean in your territory? Thats the only time automated workers havent done it for me, they just go to the nearest town and wait.

the command for clear pollution is shift+d. I think the clear wetlands is just the shift+c. I don't usually automate for clear wetlands because I prefer to use my stacks on specific squares so my work gangs are more efficient. Just saying ...

Go to the preferences menu (at the main menu, or CTR+P in game).
On the right you see 'show advanced unit action buttons'. Click that baby.
Shift+W is for Wetlands (Jungle and Marsh), Shift+D is for damage in my game.
If there's none in your borders, the worker will just look indifferently into the distance...

Thanks all.

The advanced unit actions revealed all (it is shift+W and shift+D). I bought the game brand new, and even the manual it came with lists it incorrectly... oh well, thank heavens for the internet.

It will help the IBT if you just fortify those workers assigned to those tasks. The game will determine for each worker (each of them) if there is pollution to clean or jungles to clear.

Put these guys in a stack near the capital and use them when needed. Use a helper/utility program to tell you about pollution (MapStat or CivAssistII).
