This game needs an "only build mines and roads" and "only build irrigation and roads" automation. That wouldn't be so hard to do, would it? Who's with me?

BTW, setting a city's governor settings to be biased toward production or food does nothing to workers, does it?

The only automated worker command I use is ctrl-R to build a road/railroad from one location to another. I find whether I want irrigation or mines on a tile depends on a number of factors, including terrain, any resources that happen to be on the tile, what I want to do with the city, etc. Tedious as it may be, I'd rather make those decisions myself than trust them to the computer. And no, I don't think governor settings have any effect on automated workers.

woohoo another Buffalonian, ever play as the Iroquois to get fairly local city names? (tonawanda, niagara falls, salamanca etc)

on topic: there's a setting in the preferences that shows icons for more unit commands and there are better automation choices there including one related to irrigation but I'm not sure if it does exactly what you have in mind

No, it won't. You can automate, automate don't change, automate this city only, and automate don't change this city only. There's also buttons for Ctrl-R and Shift-Ctrl-R, and an auto-clean up for damage/pollution. I think that's it as far as worker functions go.

This would be nice, but there's enough automated worker commands out there that I think it would end up cluttering the menu too much.

Now, maybe an auto-preferences would be nice. Give the workers rules to follow.

I find automated a true horror. I always manage them myself because the automated setting hardly ever does what I want to be done. I usually end up with ca. 40 workers at the end, they allow me to improve my entire nations area very succesfully.

I agree this would be a good option. If there would be an automate option to make them only irrigate and road, i would even use automation.

In conquered corrupt area's, due to the corruption mining is useless and thus all tiles should be irrigated. I think my PC could be just smart enough to that on automation.

You'll probably end up having workers irrigating and roading like the brainless monkeys they usually are when managed by the computer.
