Autumn 2017 Patch General Discussion

The start bug fix so far is working fabulously.

This may be an old issue, not sure, but I thought I'd share again lol:

I rolled India (I always roll dice for a random civ since the randomizer isn't very good at being random). So, I of course do what Gandhi always should do and became a complete warmonger. Not too much close to me, declared on Harry to steal a *very* lonely settler (like, he had no military within 5 tiles). After that I declared on Granada.

About 5 turns pass, I'm slowly knocking down Granada....

Then, Granada declares war on me and bounces me from their territory. Strange, since we were already at war?! I looked and Harry added 3 envoys to Granada to be it's new (and very first) Suzerain. So, apparently that event made Granada go to peace with me and immediately declare war again.

So, I contemplate what happens if the Suzerain changes between people you are at war with in regard to a City State -- will you keep getting bounced from the territory even though you are at war with the CS throughout?

Sounds like a bug that would actually be difficult to find in QA testing for once...

So, I'm curious, do the Khmer get any benefit from Burial Grounds?

I just realized that the return of Trade Route Religious Pressure is a big boon for India. It's much easier for them to get followers of all the religions in their cities.

Anyone seeing the AI no longer rebuilding their destroyed walls? I thought they fixed this in a previous patch, Greece still hasn't rebuilt their walls that I destroyed.

Yes I noticed that in my first game too. Sumerian capital survived a barb attack ~turn 80 but didn't rebuild its walls for the rest of the game.

So...I ran into something peculiar last night. I was playing a TSL earth map as Khmer on King. I overloaded the map with too many civs, as I often do to make the game more interesting. China was obviously my neighbour who forward settled on my face, basically. Since india and Rome (who got crammed between China, India and Russia for some reason) had established themselves to my northwest, I was pretty much screwed with only 2 cities to my name and no location to realistically settle in the near future.

...Until China started to wage war because I had more wonders (1), and attacked me with a mix of warriors, archers and chariots. I fended them off with archers, which I pumped out by selling my only luxury to india and selling open borders to anyone who would give me a dime, and a scout that happened to pass by on his LSD trip of automated exploration. I managed to pin down the forward settled city, which had grown into China's most populous town by a large margin. 9/4/4*.

Since I only had archers, I couldn't really take the city so I tried to sue for peace, hoping to get one of the 3 silver the city had. China was a tough negotiator and all I could really get was 100 gold and some change.

So I decided to try to trade the 9 pop city instead as a goof. Again, negotiations were tough, as he wanted a whopping 40 gold for it. BUT HE GAVE ME HIS LARGEST, MOST PRODUCTIVE CITY.

Yeah, AI is well improved....

That's so disappointing.. Thought they had fixed the AI's valuation of cities in peace deals. Makes me not want to play the game..

I just realized the background icon for units in the religion layer resembles a demon head:satan:. Well, given the quotes and overall feeling of the game I guess it is fine.

Finally. A year out but it’s fixed. This was driving me nuts.

Considering Persia was only added to the game at the end of March, it's hardly been "a year out".

Between statements like this and ridiculous assertions that the game is in a worse place than Civ V was before it''s first expansion, people need to lay off the hyperbolic declarations.

I know it's fantasy, but wouldn't it be great if there was an opt in community beta for upcoming patches? It's not unheard of, and it could save people on both sides of the aisle a lot of heartburn :undecide:

Paradox has open betas, which is really a great idea.

I totally agree. It's never a good idea to speak in absolutes....

2kqa_b just updated. There's no new depots on it or anything, nor Mac or Linux depots, which makes me wonder if they got approval to test a hotfix for the placement bug.

The only bug I encounter so far was that during the meeting of Catherine De Medici one game, the sound got cut out halfway of the animation of her meeting me without me even leaving animated scene, the next game after I met her again but didn't have this problem......strange.

It's a big enough problem that it's definitely hotfix-worthy. As much as the tech quotes and diplo issues from the summer had people calling them game-breaking, this one is a pretty crazy bug that is seen right from turn 1.

Yeah, because even if the human player doesn't start really close to another civ/CS, that doesn't mean that it isn't happening elsewhere. I've had a few starts where there weren't any other civs very close to me at all: wondering if it's because they're all crammed up in a small space somewhere on the map.

I was rather surprised to see the Khmer's unique ability could be picked up by anyone who founds a religion...

Additionally it's something that pretty much destroys multiplayer if not modded.

and negates all the work they have put into cross platform compatibility

This is a bit of a tangent, and I apologize, but the new feature makes me wonder if there isn't a culture bomb for forts military card somewhere in the future. It makes further use of the mechanic and might get me to build some forts.

It is puzzling. "Here's a thing that makes Khmer unique and further incentives building Holy Site... and everyone can do it."

"Anyone", meaning that person would have had to take reliquiaries first (in order to make the relic strategy effective) but because it is hard to guarantee relics without Mt. Michel or that city state, it would be risky to blindly take reliquaries.

Because Khmer can mostly guarantee relics, that means they can take reliquaries without as much risk.
