Autumn 2017 Patch General Discussion

Here is a crazy idea.

They have hinted at diplomacy being in the first expansion. Maybe this Berlin Wall thing is a hint at an alt-leader for Germany with diplomatic leader abilities to be a counterpoint to Barbarossa's city-state conquest stuff. Helmut Kohl. He would be the most recent Civ leader yet, but a good choice.

Too soon? ^^" He wouldn't be a leader that was still alive, but it was only a few months ago...

And tbf, there are probably a bunch of German leaders that would fit the pro-citystate diplomacy approach.

I was actually thinking he would have some benefit from the new late-game diplomacy feature, whether the World Congress or some other form. He was instrumental in laying out the EU.

And, yeah. Admittedly, his being a recent figure makes this less likely. That's why it is crazy.

if you want to use a post-WW2 leader for Germany with a diplomatic ability, Willy Brandt is an option. He was also the mayor of West Berlin while the wall was built. As a chancellor he is famous for his diplomacy towards the Eastern Europe.

Maybe canals will be a unique district replacement for aqueducts for Venice or Netherlands. Or a unique tile improvement for Panama. ;-)

I'd be so Moderator Action: <SNIP> enraged if canals were part of a UA. It's bad enough that culture bombs are exclusive to DLC civs.

Is the belief which makes Holy Sites culture bomb DLC-only?

No. The belief was part of the patch.

I think it's also part of the Khmer UA.
And Poland can culture bomb with encampments and forts.
And Australia with pastures.

So, unless you're a DLC civ, you have to pick one specific belief to culture bomb.

I'm sure Ed know exactly what he is doing, and I do find it delightful

I could see it as an action of a military engineer. They only have 2 charges so it wouldn't be that OP to allow a basic canal. Of course, how large a canal you allow is a tougher question - can I build a canal all the way across the US? Or is it only for the basic isthmus where currently you pop a canal city?

Personally, I'd say only buildable on flat land and only buildable next to a coastal tile, so you could theoretically cross up to a two tile peninsula or create canals between a chain of lakes, but not build a full on pseudo-river (which would be especially odd if you could build something like the Erie canal, but actual rivers themselves aren't navigable in the game).

If they give it to a unit, creating a new multi-function civil engineer could be interesting - build canals, bridges across one-tile oceans or lakes, a tunnel through mountains, etc.

I like the idea of a canal as a district, buildable on flat and later hills with Civil Engineering. Most of the time, you will just be using it for a one or two (with a city center) tile isthmus. But if you positioned 4 cities right, you might be able to get 6 tiles long. Maybe longer with some favorable lakes.

Since it's a district, it would take a long time to build, and occupy district availability that you might prefer for other things. But it would give adjacency bonuses to other districts, and there should probably be a major adjacency bonus for Harbors.

@Eagle Pursuit, have you seen any updates in the Mac/Linus files that would hint at an imminent release? Getting pretty, pretty annoyed at this point.

There were some today. I don't see any indication of when this will release though.

AspyrBlair had this to say today in the Steam Mac Forum: "We are doing everything we can to get this out before the break. I'll be the first to admit however that Jan is a real possibility due to pretty much the entire industry shutting down mid/late Dec." I seriously hope he was only referring to x-platform. He just said yesterday or the day before that they are committed to content first and x-platform later.

Unbelievable. Anyways, I am speechless.

Well, they raised the bar when they released the game and the first patches rather fast. Now we are back to how it often was. At least there is an official port and we are guaranteed that they‘ll make it work somehow. I‘ve long stopped getting emotional about such things.
And quite frankly, I‘m in no rush. Waiting for the expansion reduces my motivation to play civ VI in the meantime very much.

Isn't it funny how 2-3 weeks turned into 2-3 months?
