Autumn 2017 Patch General Discussion

We don't know exactly what is Falconchase. All we know that it's a SteamDB build being developed that is a subtle homage to CFC member Eagle Pursuit.
Do we know it's a subtle homage to EP? Or is that just
wishful thinking?

I'm not sure I'd even call it subtle. Falcon is a synonym for Eagle. Chase a synonym for pursuit. And the rest of the active branches are called things like '2kqa_a','2kqa_b','macinternalqa',etc

Of course there is a definite similarity, but after living with a lawyer for 40
years, I have a different standard of "proof". :)

BTW, falcon is not a synonym for eagle. (There are also old branches named
"frankenstein", "smoke", "capture".)

And maybe it's not so much a subtle homage, but a hint to the person who has
been leaking information to EP that they might be in breach of a contract they have
with 2K or Firaxis.

I don‘t know smoke or capture, but Frankenstein is a group of players that tested civ VI before release. If this updates again, it is likely that an expansion is getting nearer fast.

No one is leaking anything about test builds. You can see it pretty clearly on SteamDB, and it only takes some careful examination to see how the testing changes as they approach release. Then I just look for similar patterns.

And it's not like my predictions are completely accurate, I had to move the last one back a week when the achievements appeared unexpectedly.

And as a relative of a lawyer, you should recognize that a corporation would issue a written warning to employees known to be leaking, or a memo to everyone if parties unknown. That way there is a paper trail to justify termination if they decide to fire someone over it. Naming a test build after a fan is a rather passive-aggressive and unhelpful way of warding off leaking.

In my opinion, it isn't an homage, but rather a signal. People at Firaxis know what I'm doing. And I feel that I am providing them a service. They have to abide by draconian rules against talking directly to customers about future timetables. I think that some would like to circumvent those rules without actually breaking them. So they are happy that I can infer what they are doing and provide a rough timetable to the fanbase. So someone is signalling to me that I should watch that build.

So what you are saying is that ,basically, they are trying to communicate with you ;) (I leave it to any of you geeks to find the appropriate alien/UFO-based meme that fits )

I didn't sculpt Devil's Tower out of mashed potatoes yesterday for the fun of it!:p

90% of the "leaking" has been from Firaxis putting game files/xml referencing upcoming civs in earlier DLC releases. If they are concerned about leaks, it should be a discussion with their team about version control.

I definitely agree the Firaxis team is under strict limitations about communicating - I've seen them perfectly active in unrelated venues. I think one of the points of the 'livestreams' is so they can actually communicate directly with fans in the Q&A.

Having said that, I'm not sure I'd disagree with that, especially given the toxic portion that seems to always appear in fanbases. Having long arguments about changes in forums and getting death threats because someone was unhappy with a change doesn't seem super appealing to me. And I'm sure none of them want to end up in cabin with their ankles broken ;)

Firaxis should have CivFanatics-exclusive AMAs. This would cut down on the toxicity significantly, given that moderation here is top notch. A community is as good as its moderation and CivFanatics is to be lauded for that. Thank the mods.

Wasn't there a reference to canals specifically in some of the existing Civ 6 code files that someone dug up? Either a builder action, or a potential district?

On the legal side, I wasn't referring so much to the builds, which is
splendid information that you provide here, but more to the info you
received about Indonesia. I can't see anything wrong with what you do with
the build sequences - as you said, it's freely available data and all power to
you for finding some rough patterns in it.

Draconian seems a bit over the top. Employees have certain obligations
and should not discuss future releases or plans if 2K/Firaxis believe it's
better not to divulge what they are doing ahead of time. If they don't like
those restrictions and choose to breach their contracts, then they know
what they are in for.
