@raijer ~ Nice work its nice to see you back in here.

Have you noticed how much putting the black border (or any color) jumps up the size of the file you are working on. I'm not a computer guy at all but I've never understood the reason for that. Look at the pictures below.

The only difference between them is the outline ~
I even picked a color that was in the existing picture to use as the border. I really like the borders but it seems to me it wastes file size.

Is there a trick I missing here?

Thanks guys! And Raijer, that one's great! is there any chance you could do that one without a border as well? Or one that is slightly thinner on the sides/bottom (sorry to be picky and all but it just looks a bit too thick).

Cheers

Ozzy

No problem Loz... it's your avatar!

@Mistfit - Thanks! It's always nice to hang with talented people!

More elements in a file can increase the size. My trick, at least in Photoshop, is to optimize the file, which allows you pick the size your final file will be. You choose "Save for Web" from the file menu. When the save window opens, you should see a checkable option called "Optimized." Make sure that's checked.

Then click on the button (circled above, to the right of "Optimized"). This brings up a menu - select Optimize to File Size. This allows you to select the final optimized file size, in our case, 4k. Put that in the window and hit enter.

You're now good to go! Regardless of the elements used, your file will be saved at the size you need it.

I might aswell provide a chalenge to my fellow Avatar Help thread staff.

Could someone try to colour my current avatar? (I've personally given up on it already after trying. a few times.) Since my avatar is from a Black & White comic no colour version of that pic exist.

What the charecter in my avatar looks in colour.

I'll give it a shot Reno, although I'm not at all familiar with the character. Hopefully, some of the colors I had to wing are ok ;)

if you guys are interested, I've jsut been experimenting a while with colourising black and white photos. I've been workign with WWII era photos, as well as contemporary.
Here is one.
First there is the hpoto from the set of Das Boot with U-boat ace Willenbrock on the right.
Below my colourised version.

how do you do that? by hand, or is there some tool?

I did mine in Photoshop using the brush tools.

I always wondered how he or anyone who colorized old World War I pictures did that.
