Hi, new member :)

I have Civ chronicles, Civ Warlords and Civ Beyond the Sword installed on my pc and today AVG has detected 10 virii spread throughout various parts of the install. Most seem to be among civ 4 though. Can anyone confirm whether these are false positives or not? The virii are flagged up as Trojan Horse Generic6.UMS and Trojan Horse Generic6.UMU

I`m not great with this type of thing, so I`m going to be careful here. Do you use multiplayer?

Civ4 obviously doesn't have viruses. Either those files are getting infected or AVG is still sucks

Edit: since they're trojans it's probably false alarm

I know civ doesn't have virii but I wanted to know if anyone knows if the warnings are because the files have become infected or it is a recognised false negative. AVG's not great but it's far superior to McAfee and Norton.

I'm having the exact same problem when I try to install BTS. Civ4Warlords works perfectly, but every time I try to run D:\Setup for BTS, AVG stops me.

The weird part is that, even if I turn AVG off, Windows (Vista32) will not let me run setup.exe, saying that I "may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." This happens even if I try to run it as an administrator.

EDIT: The "appropriate permissions" error comes up even if the Vista UAC is turned off entirely.

right click on the file and click run as administratr
Tried many times. No dice.

I've seen a few places online that the "appropriate permissions" problem in running .exe's is sometimes a consequence of certain spyware programs. So I'll attack the problem from that angle (adaware, etc.) when I get home today. I'm also going to try installing BTS on my laptop (which barely clears the minimum specs) just to rule out any chance that it's a bad disk problem.
