In expansionist civ,you start with scout(0/0/2) and has the ability of building scout but Aztec has the ability to build jaguar warrior(1/1/2) that has the same 2movement like expansionist civ.Does this means that expansionist civ is useless.Warrior and Scout cost the same 10 shield and the only difference between them is that Aztec have 5 turns before having "scout".
This shows that expansionist ability is quite useless compared to Aztec

You are right that Aztecs get some early exploration benefits, but they still can't beat expansionist civs for a couple of reasons:

1) Expansionist civs never get barbarians from huts. Aztecs do.

2) The AI lets scouts stay in their territory for MUCH longer than it does JWs. This is not only useful when you want to cross their empire to see what's beyond, but also for resource denial.

I'm not saying that Aztecs are bad. In fact they are my favorite civ lately. They just don't get all the benefits of expansionists. IMHO Religious and Militaristic are the best combo in the game, so any benefit in exploration is a bonus!

but c'mon man....battling against unpacified barbarians also helps to mould more regular warriors into veteran and elite ones which will possess more potential for future clashes

If you're lucky and playing continents or (preferably) Pangaea, Expansionist can dominate the early game; it's nice when you can get into the medieval era before 1000 B.C.

Still, most of the Expansionist civs are pretty mediocre, due to lackluster UUs and not much advantage from their civ traits' combination; Zulus and Iroquois are both strong contenders, but America, Russia, and England don't have any real inherent advantages. (England has the advantage of having both the base-level prerequisites for Map Making, setting it up pretty nicely... but pottery's one of the first techs you get out of goody huts, so any commercial civ and especially India are also practically guaranteed to reach it within 80 turns.

What a surprise. Aztecs are conquerist too. I took over the (tiny) world once by 2670 bc with those jaguars.

Jag warriors are pretty cool, but as alexman said, they get barbs from goody huts. Expansionist civs get way better stuff from goody huts, more free techs especially. If an expansionist civ played on a large or huge pangea map, they can simply rocket through the techs and become a very early tech broker - even on Monarch level. Also, don't forget that with pottery, you can build a granary immediately and work with your expansionist trait to start your settler stream flowing. Jag warriors are best used IMHO for early conquest.

I agree the English with their jump towards shipbuilding would be cool, if only ship use didn't totally blow: 1. corruption, even after the patch, and waste, ruin overseas colonies. 2. you usually can't reach any other continent or island before they are all inhabited by the AI.

I would like to see expansionist fixed to include faster building of ports and airports, if not settlers and transport ships...
