B04: What if they were :crazyeye: ... ?

In an attempt to keep laughing at moments of our history, and in the lack of some inspiration from a precise period, we shall suppose several people/facts/places/moments of our world have been wrong.
Precision editing: Those are meant to be funny, not hinder the gameplay.

- Copernicus was wrong: the Earth was a Tore.
- The English were wrong: 2 islands are enough, why conquer so many places !
- Einstein was wrong: :nuke: don't work.
- Destroying wonders was wrong: wonder VC on.
- The civilopedia is wrong...Germany is SCI/MIL/IND! Yess!
- Celebrities are wrong...must name Elite* units after celebrities (Ben Affleck, George Bush, etc.). Amusing to see funny leader units.
- City names are wrong...cities must be named after founder's abbreviated name.( MP-Gold Town, BEF: Horse Lake, Viper-West Coast, SW: Incense Hil.). Now we will know who put the city in a crap location.
- God is wrong...no temples/Cathedrals. I don't think we'll miss them?
- :worship: Aristotle is right. :worship: If he ain't, it screws all our thinking processes of making stuff wrong. He's the master of wrong stuff.
- The 13th commandment cites: "it is wrong to be french!"
- The 14th commandment cites: Thou shall not cross a Zebra passage.
AKA we must not, by foot or by boat, ever cross the Zulu cultural barrier. This does indeed mean a lot of paras/helis when weget there. We might want to re-look at this variant sometime. Anyways, zebra crossings should be regarded with extreme care, especially by philosophs like us.

The complete list of the wrongs is always TBD.

Map is a courtesy of Igor and his Admiral, according to the current (22/06) list of wrong things we come up with. The list is not definitive.

Civ: Germany
Diff: rigged D.
Size: Large
landform: Probably watery
AI's: The wrong ones: English, Greeks, Americans, Spain, Babylon, Rome, France and some other random ones to fill in.
Barbs:
Official Variant: Some sort of NOW. We must declare war on any nation to whom we are border-neighbored. On the turn any civ plants a city that touches our border, be it by a corner-corner tip, we must eliminate it. We're bad neighbors.

Full roster:
-Beorn
-Soul_Warrior
-Viper275
-MeteorPunch
-sanabas
-Khan_Asparuh

I'd ask for whoever joins to have won Deity at least once. Please come up with something wrong as well, preferrably that will not pull up more difficulty on our poor idiot brains (we're still at the academy, don't hit us too hard).

Will close the roster, officialise the variant details and send the map request to AK by the end of this week (around the 25th). Priority recruitment for anyone who's already had to suffer me as teammate, so that they know what they're up against ( ).

LK rules, ask for exploits if unsure, stay cool with everyone's idiot moves. We're all in this together. As for the roster, I was thinking of something along the lines of an open game:
Spoiler :
If this is too messy and unclear, tell me. I give myself up to the launch date to light this up to clarity, if it isn't we'll just play it 24/48.

Turns will be taken in no particular order a priori. We will count the number of turns we have each done and work from there. When someone is sub-par in his turns, he can have 15; someone who is over-par would be asked to play 5 only.

Example of a Roster:
(85)-Beorn
(70)-Soul_Warrior
(70)-Viper275
(60)-MeteorPunch
(75)-IgorTheBarb

At this point, it would be anyone's game; however, if MP were to play, he should take 15 to catch up, whereas I would impose on myself to play only 5. The 3 others could play from 5 to 15 at their fancy, but preferrably 10.

So, whoever posts a 'Got it' gets his turns, although MP getting it would be ideal, to even it up; likewise, I wouldn't take it unless no one does in the first 24hrs.

confirming my duty :salute:
and ive got another history error.
who said there was IRON, SALTPETRE, and all the other resources in abundance?
i think there is just ONE of EACH on the face of this planet!!!

LUX on the other hand there are plenty off. TWO of each to be exact!!!

this might bump it up a level or TWO. Idiots and Cadets, BEWARE!!!

Edited the first post: forgot to mention the actual variant :rotfl:

We'll have to discuss that one, though, Corporal SW. Might get us into some nasty trouble, in conjugaison with the English are wrong one. Dismissed for now :salute:

I'll gladly help you learn in CVH1; this game isn't meant for training, sorry.

Checking in.

Not sure whether DG or D. I suppose "The English were wrong" implies archipelago? Suggest Large instead of Huge.

lurker's comment: What is a "tore"? Is it like a donut? :crazyeye:

A torus/toroid is like a doughnut, I assume tore is similar. I'll sign up if you'll have me, prefer large to huge, and prefer deity to DG, as the first people who were wrong don't look like they'll make the game any harder, nukes are rarely used, wonder VC is rarely reached, and a strangely shaped map with only 2 islands shouldn't be a problem. I'd nominate Aristotle as being wrong, except that would just result in a normal world, because few people have got more things wrong than Aristotle. So Bernoulli was wrong instead, the Bernoulli principle doesn't work, meaning there are no planes, because we can't design wings. Depending how far you want to take it, we can outlaw any sail power beyond triremes. Outlawing any more than that will probably get silly, as the modern age will just about disappear.

All of these are pretty stupid:
Mr Ed was wrong...no horse units. This would be hard.
Water is wrong...no irrigation. Very hard
My strategy is wrong...Turns get skipped for doing something stupid. Silly.
The civilopedia is wrong...Germany is SCI/MIL/IND! Yess!
Celebrities are wrong...must name Elite* units after celebrities (Ben Affleck, George Bush, etc.). Amusing to see funny leader units.
City names are wrong...cities must be named after founder's abbreviated name.( MP-Gold Town, BEF: Horse Lake, Viper-West Coast, SW: Incense Hil.). Now we will know who put the city in a crap location. :D
The Apollo Mission was wrong...space victory disabled. If Persia in Gotm43 is any indication...we will lose otherwise.
France is wrong...diplomatic victory disabled. Cause diplo is cheesy.
Religion is wrong...no temples/Cathedrals. I don't think we'll miss them?
Musical notes are wrong...cultural victories disabled. The other way will will lose despite the most valiant effort.

The difficulty is a big factor in what limitations we impose on ourselves. I think we will lose in a culture or space victory if enabled because the AI's will be building culture/libraries while we're trying to stay alive in NOW.

I don't expect us to adopt any of those variants, I was just trying to brainstorm.

This looks nice... I've never played NOW, but have some AW wins (not on deity...)
Can I join Beorn? Will come out with a variant when I find the time to think of some, this won't happen while I'm at work though... I like MP's no religion Idea myself.
Maybe a Genocide is wrong? NO CIV DESTRUCTION, otherways the game is lost? Not very compatible with the NOW, but we may consider a civ defeated when it has a single city left... And no starvation through avoidable famine, workers or settlers (slavery was wrong, we can dismiss the foreign workers too).
And DG seems fine to me, with the NOW... Large at max please...
EDIT: Of course if Daufoi's sign in in the registry is not for this one...
EDIT2: Do we have to declare when WE plant a city (or a border expansion) that touches the neighbour?
EDIT3: A few hours later, I run through the thread to see that Sanabas has been faster than me. No bad. Have fun guys.

Here is a nice torus, even in Civ colors:
torus4.jpg

Thanks Pentium

@Khan and sanabas: I'll gladly have you both in and close this up.
Khan: we do have to declare when we build a city that borders them, too. We'll have to play with that fact into good consideration.
sana: I believe Aristotle being wrong means that all the above are correct, which would be wrong according to the presumed correctness of the wrongs cited :crazyeye:

@MP: Celebrities, Religion, City names and History can really be wrong.
The others I'm not sure I want ... perhaps Music is wrong though.

If we disable cultural and we give ourselves IND, this will be a Deity caliber game. I'll ensure with Igor that the map is Deity material for us goofs.

Now just tell me about the roster thingy, it must be clear to everyone, otherwise we'll play 24/48. Don't you guys tell me it's clear I won't believe it.

Thanks, Beorn.
I think I can rely on my 2 brain cells about the roster thing, but we must come out with a clear statement of the variants. The NOW is clear but the wrong guys are not. Can we make a complete list of them and then select the ones we want to play with? I'd say that Hitler was wrong is for the genocide stuff and if we decide to join (not dismiss) the slaves than some american general can be wrong about this in the Civil War, pick one as I don't recall much of this part of the history. Or we can just use a personnage of Uncle Sam (the book) :D

Edit: My pleasure, Khan; if you check your PM's you'll see an invitation from a few days ago ;)

I actually thought NOW was a misuse of the real term, but the neighboring isn't rocket science.

I've been updating the first post with the ones I'd keep myself, perr pressure me into others if you see good ones you'd like to try. I'll make it big and official when speculations are over and I send the data to AK for a map.

2- sorry but MrEd was right ;) (aka, whisperer to horses in jive)
3- City names. my grand palace shall be called Soul in da Brig :crazyeye:
4- God must be wrong. im a misc. religion guy myself.

On deity I fully agree with SW's vision. Imagine what it is to live in paris and to consider that it's wrong to be French :crazyeye:

You'll have to make #2 clearer to my ignorant wits.

As for #4, in addition to the fact we can talk with all other leaders in our own language:
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy said:
Cited from Well That about Wraps It up for God, after the discovery of the Babel fish, a fish you stick in your ear to act as a universal translator.
"Now it is such an improbable coïncidence that anything so mind-bogglingly useful could have evolved purely by chance that some thinkers have chosen to see it as a final and clinching proof of the nonexistence of God.
The argument goes something like this: 'I refuse to prove that I exist,' says God, 'for proof denies faith, and without faith I am nothing.'
'But,' says man, 'the Babel fish is a dead giveaway, isn't it? It could not have evolved by chance. It proves you exist, and so therefore, by your own arguments, you don't. QED'

about Mr Ed being right.
Tubby rower in his all mighty wisdom has dubbed me once as Jive Talker, following a really ununderstandable few posts by me.
i suggested a different name, A-La robert redford.
Whisperer to horses
just like he did in the movie. no one could understand what he said, not even the horses.
and judging from the horses nighs (some would call it laughter) neither did the horses :D

and the Misc thing.
like Abu in the SIMPSONS says. there are quite a few religions.
Judaism, Christianity, Islam and Miscelleneous (refering to all the East Asian stuff (Hindu, Zen, Buddhism, Aborigenies, Etc)
