Baba Yetu like them song? Do you want it in Civ V?

Baba yetu was awesome for civ4, but its time to move on. No need for it in civ5. When you hear it in youtube or somewhere, it will make you feel nostalgic and you go back to civ4 for few games :D

Baba Yetu definitely won't be in Civilization V, since its menu soundtrack was already published on a web page of the composer not long ago. It was quite neutral, but pleasant to the ears. I think they removed it at some point, along with a great deal of other tracks. I definitely agree on the Civilization IV BTS menu soundtrack being poor by the way. It was just horrible in my opinion. Fortunately, you can change the menu theme back to vanilla Civilization IV, thus bringing back Baba Yetu. Praise the Lord indeed!

My favorite menu song was the one from Warlord. I always changed menu theme to Warlord just for the song.

The song from civ 4 vanilla was good but I'd rather have a new one now for Civ 5. I think they used it in Civ rev when you would pass over a friendly village (like ruins in civ5) wich was a nice touch.

How do you do this? I kinda want to do the same.

i bought the whole cd from christopher tin. and baba yet wasn't even the best song on his album! :)

"Mado Kara Mieru " for example, like the above poster kindly posted.
My personal favorite is Sukla Krsne, though: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YtkK6-0eCvI

I wonder if Civ 5 can pick something equally epic ... the expansions' main themes all sucked, sadly.

The music in the Gametrailers review was VERY good. So I don't think the change will bother me.

Second'd.

His CD has alot of great music on it. Dunno if they drafted him for any music this time 'round though.

What I would really prefer, though, is soundtrack importing. People who play Civ come in all sorts and while I generally like any music, I think it's a testament to diversity when a player that prefers Ghandi can do so while bangin' out to Speed Metal while the Genghis Kahn player can massacre a whole continent while listening to Smooth Jazz.

The new menu music (and other tracks) are still there - "Civilization V Opening Menu Music" on this page.

I'm at work and can't check, but IIRC it's not too hard to find. Get the startup options menu to open at launch (think that's in the Options in main menu) and I believe it's in there

If you browse to X:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\sid meier's civilization v\Assets\Sounds\Streamed\Music, you'll see a file called OpeningMenu_Proto_1. I'm pretty sure this is the theme for the menu. You can try copying Baba Yetu into this directory, and renaming it to OpeningMenu_Proto_1. Make sure to back up the original file first, though ;)

Awesome. Thanks!

Not all of the music used in the review is from the game itself, though. I think a part of the music is from "Two Steps From Hell". Still, the soundtrack of Civilization V is given much more love than the previous games.

just heard the civ 5 intro and menu music. well ....
it's nice, i guess ...

pretty orchestral piece and adequately pompous ... but utterly forgettable. :(

nah, i guess Baba Yetu was an accident, never to be repeated again in the gaming industry.

You could always buy the Christopher Tin album and put it in your music folder!

I got sick of Baba Yetu. I would prefer something more neutral (but yet still pleasing) for the main menu.

I hated the BTS theme too, that got irritating real quick.

Baba Yetu is so 2005!

Listening to the opening menu song that dustlined linked to, if it is indeed the opening menu song, it doesn't strike me as that extraordinary in any way on the first listen. Fairly traditional classical-style music, with a militaristic tilt but not bombastic in any way. It's not a bad piece, but neither is it one I would regularly listen to just for the sake of listening to, as I have with Baba Yetu.

I did replace the Civ3: Conquests theme music with Baba Yetu. While I feel Conquests' menu music is fitting for a Civilization-type game, especially a military-focused expansion, Baba Yetu is thus far my undisputed favorite of the Civ menu musics (not being familiar with Civ1/2). It's possible I'll use it for Civ5 menu music, too.

Baba Yetu also fit especially well with the Civ4 menu screen - the two combined were better than either individually. It may or may not go so well with Civ5's menu screen.

Found it, that's pretty cool! :goodjob:
