I previously haven't played Civ V since November ( I believe a few weeks after Fall patch). I recently got that itch it come back and play again. To my surprise there are a few good looking mods that I did not see before. I plan to start a game with:

-Smart AI*
-Enhanced User Interface*
-Communitas Map*
-Balanced Policies*
-Less Warmonger Hate*
-Info Addict
-Slower Research
-R.E.D Modpack

I have starred the mods that are completely new to me. Can anyone share their experiences with these? Hopefully this will also help folks that are looking to get back to Civ V and maybe freshen it up along the way.

Tectonics is an awesome Mod, and so is quickturns.

I don't know the others, i just made my own balance mod to fix what i didn't like.

Only one of the mods I've played with that's new to you is Smart AI. It seems like combat is more even, but I'm not sure if that isn't merely wishful thinking on my part.

Communitas Map are great, I've been using them instead of the standard ones. It's a good mix between realistic climates and fun (lots of small island, inland seas connected to oceans, strategic chokepoints, etc). They're available in Continents an Terra settings, they're perfect for naval civs IMO.

-Smart AI*
Must give it a try. Or at least read its description in detail.

-Enhanced User Interface*
There is a fantastic interface-wise "unofficial patch" mod for the game but it slightly changes game rules so I'm uninterested. If this is just interface without this change, I gotta check it out.

-Communitas Map*
Map mods are imo only for advanced players who play immortal/deity games because they make AI even dumber than it usually is and also imbalance the game. If you want to actually learn the game, don't play any map mods. Original scripts promote playability while such mods promote good looks of maps.

-Balanced Policies*
Rules change. Apply if you like the change. Will make the game easier.

-Less Warmonger Hate*
Same as above.

-Info Addict
One of the most important mods for players learning how to Civ. It gives you extremely detailed info about everything, including AI civs, which could be seen as cheating.

-Slower Research
A flavor mod that also makes the game easier for human players.

-R.E.D Modpack
I personally love it. Install together with RED Extreme but remember that you need much better PC to handle it than for vanilla Civ. Units will be much smaller and will look differently based on their owner.

I play on Epic Speed but, don't feel as if I have enough time to fully flesh out and enjoy a particular strategy with tech coming and going so fast. Thats where slower tech comes in.

Enhanced IU is has no gameplay changes from what I've read and seen

Also from what I read Balanced Policies reduces some buffs. Mainly around Tradition which I normally use. (will be playing as Ethiopia)

I really undecided on the Warmonger hate mod. I'm not a warmonger myself, but I dislike the though of fighting a defensive war or war of necessity and being hated for it 2-3 eras later.

I'm hoping for a pretty great challenge with a random map type(will take your input on communitas into account), Immortal difficulty and Smart AI.

Can you qualify your statements that communitas Map and slower research help out humans and hinder the ai? What is the reasoning your using there?

Idk about the map type. But I think slowing research and/or game speed works in the players favor. Gives more time to strategize and move armies long distances. As well as being able to recover from mistakes.
