Good day gentlemen (and the rare lady who plays CIV),

Dumb me stepped on my CIV3 CD. Bummer. But a friend had the game so I asked to borrow it to copy a cd for my self which I have to believe I'm entitled to do. It just wont copy. I guess there are copy protection schemes for CDs.

Not was all lost however. By following a bunck of links from this site, I was able to get a NO CD version running (1.17f even!).

Questions:
1) should I send to infrogrames for a cd replacement?
2) Will I ever be able to just copy my buddies CD?
3) Should I just be happy that I dont even need the dumb CD anymore?

Thankyou all. If anyone else has had this situation occur, gimme a hollar csherwoo@san.rr.com

Hi Charlie,

Bad luck happens sometimes.......

For exactly the same reason you mention I made a back up copy for safety purposes. The tool used for that is CD Clone, a program that does exactly what it promises, it makes an exact replica of the CD. Nothing more, nothing less. With the Civ3 CD it takes about 2 hours to read the CD btw, so there is "something" on it that makes copying quite hard.

About your other questions: check with Infogrames, replacing a defect original CD is normal policy. And on the No CD, typical installs everything on the HD, so for playing the game a CD is not neccesary.
