bad commercials

I know. I really didn't feel like searching through a bunch of commercials for that one.

You're more than welcome to do that tho, Bozo.

I was just looking for it, but mercifully I didnt find it.

Barry Scott doing the Cillit Bang ads.
WHAT!?! There the most amazing ads ever, words can't describe how good it is. Everything about them is just pure genius. I think its brilliant the way at the start of the adverts he goes "Hi I'm Barry Scott" as if your supposed to know who he is, pure genius. Its one of those adverts that only sells and amazing no nonsense image but it is informative and helpful aswell showing you the full effects of Cillit Bangs amazing cleaning power displaying how limescale, rust and ground in dirt are no match for it. Anyway adverts which annoy me are all Gillette adverts and that stupid Puma advert that show five seconds of Pele and for some reason we're meant to be amazed.

From the webcomic 'Loserz,' regarding the Gilette adverts

Still can't find that creepy advert I described earlier. I am looking though...for some strange reason. Maybe just to prove it's not all just in my mind.

Heh, reminds me of some old Saturday Night Live commercial spoofs.

I don't remember the brand, but some camera company used to have a series of commercials showing celebrities using their camera. The tag line was "the camera so easy to use it, even (soandso) can use it".

When SNL did their parody, it became "the camera so easy to use, even Stevie Wonder can use it".

Wow, it's almost at 7 pages, and nobody has mentioned the worst commercial currently on American Television?

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=788007282255502873

Here it is, for those of you not in the USA.

I used to like Dunkin Donuts until I saw this. Imagine a commercial that could turn away loyal customers ;)

As for past commercials that I hate, the first that comes to mind are the Build a Bear Workshop commercials with the song "Disco Hippie" by Play, playing in the background.

Worst commercial of the 80's: The Mormon commercial where the kid is thinking "I'll tell my mom a lie" and these guys dressed in black, holding flashlights, singing silly song like

"If you tell one lie, it leads to another,
If you tell two lies, they cover for each other,
When you tell three lies: Oh brother!
You're in trouble up to your ears!"

Haha, all while flashlight men dancing around, shining their flashlights. Ha ha ha!

yeah, our commercials do tend toward the odd sometimes. But it was the 80's; all the commercials were ridiculous.

I think advertisers have realised that annoying people is a very effective way of getting their attention and having them remember your product.

Indeed, bozo. I can remember the commercials I don't like a lot better than the ones I do.

That Dunkin' Donut's wasn't too bad. Although the mom screaming 'Ka-ra-tay!' was....interesting.

It can backfire though. Sometimes you end up remembering the commercial and entirely forgetting the product.

Or worse, seeing the product and remembering the bad advert.

"I don't care what they're selling, it was a horrible advert!"

Quite a few adverts annoy me, but the main ones are:

Any advert for mobile phone ringtones and games.

Any advert that is shown twice in the same commercial break.

The NSPCC adverts. Any charity that can afford to put on two adverts in the same primetime commercial break is clearly so well off that it doesn't need my money, regardless of how sad the child actors look.

Those inane government adverts because the advice they give people is so basic. "Don't be predujiced against disabled people". "Buy a smoke detector and check the batteries". "Fireworks are dangerous". Surely the government can find something better to spend my tax money on?

EDIT: I've just remembered how much the medical claims made by shampoo adverts annoy me as well. The cells that make up hair are dead, so how can shoving a few vitamins into your shampoo affect them?

This thread reminds me of the "Ad Road Test", where the people go around testing whether a certain ad works in real life. :mischief:

Link

EDIT: That is the site to veiw the videos from "The Chaser's War on Everything", so not all videos have an ad road test. (My personal favourite Ad Test is the Nicorette Ad Road Test, 2nd June)

There are ads on the Washington Metro, that show a picture of a person with a bunch of statements like "I like sports. I have a Ph.D. I am an American citizen. And I am Muslim." Just fine, I can agree with the sentiments. The kicker is the tagline: "Hate crimes aren't just offensive. They are also criminal."

Wow, thanks for letting us know that crimes are criminal!

Dionysius`s Advertisement Death List

1. the animator of the Crazy Frog.
2. the twisted mind that conceived the CillitBANG! ad
3. Barry Scott`s actors [two to date]
4.Linda Martin; non existantant person who was the spokesperson
on a Moneypenny ad.[loan company]
5.the nestle CEO. slowly...
6.the bright spark who said "Hey guys, why not have a Crazyfrog REMIX!!!"
7."the Diet coke- do YOUR thing!" admaker, you b*str*d.
8.the actor on the Perlico broadband ad [in ireland].
9.the sky one admaker*
10.Derryn Hinch's Allbran ads->added at behest of azzaman333
11.the Easy Off BAM->apparently australian equivilent of cilletBANG.
12. every writer of every advertising catchphrase e.g. "BAAAANG and the dirt is gone!!!"

"Hello, I'm Derryn Hinch"....:twitch:

I think the Easy Off BAM is the aussuie equivalent of Cillit Bang. It sounds like the same guy, I think.
