Banner Complaint

A new banner has appeared on the bottom of the forum pages, and this one has me steamed. It's a Macromedia Flash ad, which will say "I got your attention, didn't I?" if you mouse over it. It surprised the hell out of me the first time it happened, and now I am... displeased. I go to a lot of effort to make sure ads don't intrude overly much upon my surfing. It got my attention alright, but not in a good way. Is there a way to get rid of the offending ad? I don't want to have to resort to ad-blocking software, as I know displayed ads help the site. I will, though, if this sort of thing becomes common.

Y'know, every time that thing 'speaks,' my already slow connection slows down considerably. I'd happily get ad blocking software, if I had the hard drive space.

I know nothing can be done, I just felt like complaining today...

Switch if you don't want to use ad blocking software but hate when the ad talks to you...Turn off your speakers!

Why did you put your mouse over it anyway? Generally I just avoid the adverts and most of the time I don't even notice them.

King of Camelot: It's not just the sound, Flash ads are also a drain on system resources. Far more so than just displaying a jpeg or gif.

Dell19: It was accidental. I had no idea the ad was even there until I was surprised by the "voice." Then I went looking for the cause and noticed the ad.

Anarchy: I know how to do that, I'd just rather not... at least on this site. Displayed ads mean money in TFs pocket to help defray the cost of running the site.

I notice the ad isn't there today. Thank goodness.

The 'money' doesnt go to TF it goes to the greedy chaps who host the site. ANd I quote money because there is none coming from this. I wonder why they even bother to display them. I encountered that ad a while ago must admit it suprised me too.... them there people are getting smarter eh?

Right now, I see a "page cannot be displayed" thing in my banner, but that doesn't happen all the time.

Greedy? They provide the hosting to TF for free, so I fail to see how they are being greedy....

You are probably getting the popups from Kazaa....try Kazaa Lite if you haven't already.

I also get that Komputer magazine annoying popup. Once in a while I can live with. EVERY time I click anywhere I can not.

Popup stopper downloaded, seems to work well. If I couldn't block it I would never set my foot here again.
