I came across Washington DC in red. Since the former American capital was oddly isolated from the rest of their civ geographically yet far enough away from my closest city to keep it NONE, I took the opportunity to initiate my first barbarian farm. I was surprised to discover that after bribing a dozen or so archers and getting an announcement that the Americans had discovered gun powder I was switched to bribing musketteers!

I guess whoever said that the barbarian will forever churn out the same unit that captured the city was slightly mistaken.

v. Civ2 "classic" with patch on pc.

There are certain techs that will upgrade the barbarian units, and I assume that when that tech is first discovered by any civ they will get it. Gunpowder is one of them.

I've never heard of it.

The Barbs seem to produce the same type unit as the one that captured the city, but its not the eleventh commandment!! I have seen them produce other units quite often. It just depends on how long you "farm" the barb city. The barbs do upgrade with time.

I think he's pulling from what I said earlier....

'Whatever unit they used to capture the city is what they will build there; forever.'

I guess to be more correct, it should be 'Whatever type unit they used to capture the city is what they will build there; forever.'

In otherwords, if they capture it with a horseman, you will only get 'horse' type units. The main point being they don't build city improvements, only units.

Don't take everything so literally. Especially from me, I pull my info from my head. ;)

One trick I sometimes use is:
I let an undefended city taken by barbs. This city has got a barracks.
Let a diplo wait outside and "harvest" the produced barbs - they are vets!
