Barbarian Cheat

I have heard rumours of a cheat that allow the human player to act as the barbarians. Can someone please verify the existance of such a cheat. And if it does exist, then what is it?

Any help would be greatly apreciated...

I've vaugely heard of it. Not sure if its ture. I experinced a bug where I signed a peace treaty with them though...

I don´t think that is possible in Civ2.
That cheat worked in Civ1. At the tribe selection you could type in some key combination and play as the barbs. But in Civ2, I don´t think something works.

I know it can be done with hex editing.

Here is a zip of "Fortnight OCC #17" which is hex edited so you can play as both the Romans and the barbs.

there is a .sav and and hotseat sav.IIRC the hotseat save is for MGE and the .sav is for 2.42.

doesn't have to be played OCC

With editing, you can also do things like set the form of Government for the barbs. Playing Raging Hordes against a barb Democracy can cause severe consternation if one really relies on barb bribes as a source of cheap help and leader hunting.

Hey I've experienced that as well. They take over a few of your cities and then you start getting messages like "Barbarians have discovered the secret of the Alphabet" or something like that. Meanwhile, your researching Mobile warfare:laugh:

Anyways, I signed a treaty with them and then I defeated them. Yes you can play as the Barbs using the cheat menu I think. Set human player to Barbarians. I think...

How did the barbarian leader look like? If you signed a tresty with him, there should've been a picture of him.

That is actually not an option, but I discovered a while back that if you let them capture a city (i only ever tried this with them capturing on of mine, but i don's see why it wouldnt work with anyone's) and then reveal barbarian map, you become them! ive never won a battle as barbs though, and science is reeeealy bad, you fill up the research box with light bulbs and it starts over without discovery!! Though by the sounds of this:

I'd be interested in hearing more about that! To my knowledge, it is not possible to sign a treaty with the barbs.... they won't every offer one, and normal dipolmacy can't contact them (they don't appear on my diplomacy screens). I run Civ II MGE, 5.4.0f, 24Mar99 (AKA Patch 3). It is conceivable things might behave differently on earlier versions of Civ.

The part about playing the barbs is definitely possible, as I've seen that even in my Civ version.

Has anyone else out there ever made a treaty with barbs?
