Barbarian Cities

Aussie,
That those cities were captured from barbarians and improved by a civ is what I've been assuming.

Slax,
I think your image is of a worked tile -- the smoke is to show that workers are currently producing from that tile.

I'm excited about the civ IV barbarians. If what we have heard about them turns out to be all there is to them, I will probably still be satisfied. It seems like taking unclaimed territory in the game is going to be made more complicated. I hope that makes that part of the game more challenging (and interesting) as well.

No, definitely not. They appear far away from cities, outside of borders.

@ Aussie, I think that's what happened. I doubt barbarian cities would be building courthouses and universities.

I agree with Aussie because Agade was an ancient city that was destroyed and is located in now present-day Iraq and the Cherokee were an Native American tribe, so they are not some major civ's cities that were captured and probably just barbarian cities that were captured by a major civ.

But on the other hand Agade could be an Persian or Arab city even though it was destroyed before those empires existed but I doubt that it is.

I defenitely want to see "mini-civs". I always thought the barbarians in civ 2 were much better than civ 3. They could capture cities and they would update with the times. None of this in 1900 A.D. attacking my infantry with clubs.

The idea of barbarians being a "mini-civ" is certainly interesting, but I wouldn't expect much from this... If it is something like the barbs in Civ2, then I'll be happy.

It would be realy cool to see a barbarian country. If they do have this thow then i hope their are going to be some nice game options that would allow you too give tribute for protection and even convince them to join your lands. Another cool thing they could do with this is have one of your cities become independent out of no where this would allow for civil wars and revolutions though i doubt it would happen.

I highly doubt this would be included. I expect no diplomacy of any kind with the barbarians.

This is off this thread's topic, but I would say that I would never, ever, want completely random civil wars in the game.

Why can't Agade and Cherokee simply be screenshots taken of a game in which the playtester was naming his own cities rather than relying on the default names?

I don't think so. They're extremely random names to give to a city (as opposed to Thecitythatgodforgot); ie, they're not funny or wacky names, they're just...random historical places.
