"Barbarian Wrath"

There is a way to avoid barbarian wrath during the game!!
If you save the game before the end of turn and a barbarian horde appear, you just have to reload the game and the barbarian horde will probably not appear as it's a random event of the game.
Is shure that you lose the oppurtunity to kill a bunch of barbs.:rocket: Or to be killed

For Rowan, my dukely counterpart is correct, and the ES you are missing stand for Entertainment System, which is a fancy way of saying console really.

gato, you seem to have missed the point of this thread. It's about changing the rules.txt of the game to make the barbarian level harder than the standard levels you get with the game. And if you hav to reload the game to play without barbs, why not just choose the "Villages only" option when you begin? You should be able to make up any points lost by having more citizens and discovering more future techs.

This is a fairly old thread, but it is timely now that Andu is doing a D+1 game.

I have tried creating Diety +1 games, and they create and run properly until.... you decide to load it after save. Usually, you cannot save it either. What happens is simple. The whole game instantly crashes, and the Civ2.exe is terminated by the system. This is indicative of a "out of bounds" reference (in the programming world).

I presume this is because I am running Civ 2 MGE (1.3 patch to 5.4.0f), with no facist patches, etc. I assume the people successfully doing the D+1 are using 2.42, not MGE.

PS, The Barb+1 level works just fine (AKA Barb Wrath) in MGE. Only the D+1 fails at save/load times.

Barbarian wrath... tch. How can it be called wrath? They are simply aids to veterancy and also to quick cash if you can kill their dip. Trouble is they always overlap it with a more powerful (?can it be called that?) unit.

Bet the graphics are worse than the alpha prototype for Civ 1. Well, maybe that's a bit too harsh on the poor old thing. Does anyone actually OWN a SNES anymore? Be honest...

How can it be called wrath?
It does not have an official name... I think Smash used that name when describing how to do it once... and the name was cool & stuck :). Seems pretty descriptive, hehe....

This sounds like fun.

What is the Score bonus for Barbarian Wrath?

Is there a score bonus for BW? Does it actually give the barbs a 150%(or more) advantage in combat AND effect your score accordingly?

 :tank:

unknown spirit, yes, many people still have that wonderful SNES! Look around, you'll find many sources for old systems and games, even the original NES! Also, Narz, Civ2 is NOT an SNES game. Civ1 is, however.
As for Barbarian Wrath being fun... I don't enjoy building massive defensive systems to keep these guys out. All the resources going into defense are not going into science, so you'll find yourself many turns behind. Once you get flight, one can destroy swells before they get out of hand. It's not uncommon with this option to get a message like "51 Units Destroyed!"

The scoring bonus for Barbarian Wrath is 50 victory points instead of 25 points; and the "Leader Captured" value is 200g instead of 150g. (I seem to recall Smash or somebody else saying that if you set the Barbarians at an even higher level, these bonuses crash so you get 0 victory points/50 gold).

As for combat: I can't say that I notice any difference in their combat value.

As for contending with them: the best defense is hyper-expansion to limit the barbarian "seed" squares -- it is only the land-based Barbarians that come at 100 at a time. It also good to have dips/spies ready just in case the Barbarian sea-raiders happed to capture a city.

And yes, what does SNES stand for?
