Some I was installing the BSS Mod and felt I didn't like it sizing scheme, and wanted to go for more realism. I was first thinking of making it era specific, so as you advanced eras it would change the sizing of older ships to allow for newer ones to remain roughly the same size as the old ones were in the previous era... but that's more work then I'm willing to do.:p

So the other options are:

Make realistic ship scale, even if it means carriers taking 3 tiles.
Use BSS scale, as is.
Keep original scale.

Any suggestions or comments?

Don't like either screen shot for scale.

Especially don't like the bottom one...

You have to realize, everything doesn't work in a cookie-cutter system.

I originally had my own mod using sort-of a "reset" after age of sail... but when you realize that everybody doesn't upgrade at the same time, it's quite common for a WWII Battleship to run across an age of sail ship (or some other obvious mismatch)... and if a Ship of the Line is twice as big as a Battleship, it's just going to look awful... even in your top picture, many of the age of sail ships are clearly bigger (or as big) as the modern ships (when you take the sails into consideration).

The BSS system is pretty darn good, I'd recomend sticking to something like that... I couldn't use BSS straight-up, as I have many more ship classes in my own mod (like industrial age coal-firing ships), but I used it as my blueprint... I think having any "3-square ships" is too much.

I agree. I was assuming the .nif had the same size image in them all, and size was determined by scale... alas, as the Galleon showed me, that's not the case. I set scale at 0.47 and it came out as large as a carrier set at 2.00. I played around with it a bit more and came up with a comprimise between BSS and what I'm looking for.

I think the only solution would be one that game doesn't provide.. ie - changing all ship sizes as YOU enter the next era, which isn't possible... units can only change as the civ they belong to enters the next era.

What about this?

One thing I'd like to do is increase the size of the troop transport a bit larger, but didn't do it in this one.

Just don't let the models to be much bigger than the tiles. Anyway it's closer to chess than to crysis, you know. And I don't want a "king" figurine in chess which takes 9 squares.

The thing I didn't like in the 2nd screenshot provided is the huge carrier which takes 3 tiles instead of 1. And imagine how it looks if there're a lot of them in different tiles, or stacked...
The last screenshot is OK for me.

i like the third one you posted..... this is the better ship scale ??

medium size i guess.....

large size is 3 tiles on the Aircraft carrier..... not that i ever use em....:mischief:

I ended up using BSS with just a few changes... I made a few of the Post-Dreadnought era ships larger then in BSS. The first one, with larger ships would show true to scale, but the scale they use isn't consistent throughout. The last photo posted is the one I used in BAT 0.08. How about some feedback from actual gameplay?;)

I voted for my option. for what it is worth - I liked the 3rd screenshot.

I never cared about ship scale. I don't like them going into another tile and also when you zoom in or out it appears that the ships change size. So just don't use the really big one.

Hard to tell, honestly. There's no baseline (standard) screenshot.
But I would say the 2nd one, with the aircraft carrier from the 3rd...except the 5th ship in the first row is too large (in the 2nd screenie) and too small in most of the others. (2nd screenie) The 5th ship should prolly scale to the size of the 4th ship in the 2nd row .

Would it be possible to see the settings you used?

I've been playing my first game with the latest BAT the past few days, and I think the ships look really nice. The only thing that's bothering me is that the Battleships interfere with clicking the city bars (for changing the production queue). I am forced to move the ship before I can click the bar or, of course, open the city screen.

You do know you can double click on the unit in the city to open the city screen...right?

I am forced to move the ship before I can click the bar or, of course, open the city screen.

Yes, I do, although upon reading it again I see that my meaning was ambiguous. The "or" applies to moving the unit -- not clicking the bar. Thanks, though. :)

The bar is also hard to click when a unit is in the square directly below the city. This latter issue has nothing to do with BSS.

Use the rotate 45 degrees left or right (shift right or left arrow from memory) to get that stupid unit out of the way.

That works when a unit is below the city, and I use it a lot. However, it doesn't solve the problem with the mega-huge battleships and carriers.

Also, while the ships look really nice with all that detail, they look odd next to the nearby islands. :) I know a carrier is like a floating city, but seriously dude, it's bigger than the whole damn island! ;)
