I'm not sure if such a thread already exists (the anniversary was several days ago, but I wasn't visiting the forum then).

So I'm creating this thread, anyway.

This battle was - arguably - the most amazing victory of Winged Hussars and the Polish army in general in 17th century.

After the battle Polish units captured Moscow for two years (until 1612).

Two days ago was the 600 anniversary of the battle of Grunwald, several days ago was the 400 anniversary of Klushino - but this battle is not as famous and well-known as Grunwald, while it was probably a much more amazing victory.

Here is an interesting article in English about the battle of Klushino written by Radoslaw Sikora:

http://www.radoslawsikora.republika.pl/materialy/Kluszyn.pdf

Intensive research on the battle of Klushino done by Sikora reveals many new facts.

For example - he finally located the exact place where it was fought (maps in the article below).

He also gathered a lot of eye-witness reports and casualty reports from both sides.

Some other interesting materials (click the " Materiały " section) in English available:

http://www.radoslawsikora.republika.pl/index.html

Polish historian Radoslaw Sikora is also an author of the recently published (2010) excellent monograph of this battle:

The book (unfortunately only available in Polish at the moment):

But the article in English posted above contains its "essence".

Lol 3 great (if not greatest) Polish victories and all have "round" anniversaries this year (600, 400, 80).

It must be some kind of a historical conspiracy ^^.

Btw - in 1010 was the victorious defence of the castle of Glogow by Polish forces against the German emperor Henry II (1000 anniversary). :)

Edit:

I could change the title of this thread for "Battle of Klushino; Battle of Warsaw - anniversaries" - but unfortunately I don't know how. :D

Poland won the Battle of Warsaw...?

Poland won the Battle of Warsaw...?

Yes. It's about the battle of Warsaw in 1920 in which Poles defeated the Red Army.

Not about the siege of Warsaw in 1939 or the Warsaw (Jewish) Uprising in 1943 or the Warsaw (Polish) Uprising in 1944.

There was also the battle of Warsaw during WW1 (in 1915), the battle of Warsaw in 1831, two battles of Warsaw in 18th century (one in 1794 and one in 1705) and finally one battle of Warsaw and two sieges of Warsaw in 17th century (battle in 1656, sieges in 1656 and in 1657).

There were also several battles fought for control over the city in the vicinity of Warsaw that are known under different names:

Battle of Warka (1656), battle of Raszyn (1809), battle of Grochow (1809), battle of Radzymin (1809), battle of Olszynka Grochowska (25.02.1831), 1st battle of Wawer (19.02.1831), 2nd battle of Wawer (31.03.1831) and also the Soviet versus Nazi Germany tank battle - battle of Radzymin - in 1944.

And there was also The May Coup d'État during which some fightings (Poles versus Poles) took place, in 1926.

So in total there were "quite a few" battles in this area during the last few centuries... :crazyeye:

Cheers!
Domen

Edit:

The battle was in 1920.

So Taillesskangaru made a mistake (I didn't notice at first) - it will be the 90 years anniversary next month (not 80).

Poland won the Battle of Warsaw...?

It was the decisive battle of the Polish-Soviet War fought between 1919 and 1921 (with main combats in 1920):

Battle of Warszawa - fought between August 13th and August 25th of 1920:

Soviet offensive was stopped at the outskirts of Warsaw and repulsed by Polish counteroffensive 200 km to the east in 13 days:

Think of it this way comrade Karalysia, the vile nest of reactionary Polish serpents were crushed in the real Battle of Warsaw.

What are the odds that I was reading about this very battle on what I now discover was the anniversary, with absolutely no idea it was?

Poland should just move on.

Nobody seems to care. Anyway, do we really need threads about the anniversaries of battles that are not accompanied with content worth discussing? Seems rather spammy to me.

I think it's our fault that we don't gush over the singular awesomeness of Polish victories.

But you gush over the awesomeness of fictional "Saving Private Ryan" and stupid comments on internet forums instead.

I guess this is going to be the first war movie in 3D technology. This is worth discussing or informing at least.

Is there any other war movie in 3D already?

Maybe you want to discuss the history of film instead? Might want to make another thread for that.

I endorse the conjunction of these two posts.

You apparently have no idea what Saving Private Ryan was about.

It wasn't USA #1, but I can forgive this because many have fallen for that.

and what else was the movie about? the authentic representation of war?

and what else was the movie about? the authentic representation of war?

A deconstruction and examination of the concept of duty?
