Looks like they're making a new battlefield game that has a bit of originality. I'm excited, I can't wait to play this one. What do you guys think?

Was going to make a thread about this yesterday, but at that point I think it was still only rumours and leaked videos.

So it's actually confirmed than? Very interesting, I'll wait and see though. Mechs and stealth suits do seem like a lot of fun.

Deosn't seem so origionaly though, on this other forum I am on, it;s still just what they are guessing but they are already bashing EA. The following are completely biased and opinionated:

"MAKING A WHOLE NEW GAME....off the BF2 engine. So basically, a mod?""


"This is going to ruin the entire series. The whole point of the Battlefield games was to delve into historical events and historically accurate battles, guns, vehicles, etc. It's also completely stupid how they're making this right now, since BF2 came out less than a year ago, and they're still working on more stupid patches and expansions for BF2."

"Terrible plot + Attempt to be like Star Wars + Nothing new or exciting = Failure."

"The plot sucks indeed, such a cliché. It's always some kind of natural disaster, 2-4 superpowers trying to take what's left of the resources/available land,"

"M16's into a hunk of crud that is supposed to look VAGUELY like a pulse rifle"

"just some new vehicles, maps and weapons, nothing new or revolutionary about it so far."

Of course, the game could turn out to not be bad.

Ooh, never thought of that. I mean, Star Wars: Battlefront is alright, but doesn't compare tp BF2, or even BF1942.

Will wait with more reluctant breath now.

As I said, those were biased, pessimistic opinions, the game could be quite good.

Besides the cliche story.

It might use the same graphics engine, but they could add some innovative gameplay. If they come up with something that'd force you to play in squads it could become a better game.
I don't like the setting though, but a mod could easily change that.

That's something I realized and got annoyed by yesterday, Call of Duty is a good game, the multi is best but there are very few singleplayer campagins that have been made by modders. FPS games, ALL games need to be easier to be modded (if they aren't already).

Heh, cliched story indeed. I hope it's only there as some sort of basic backstory. I liked the fact that BF2 was simply 'three factions, modern day, fight!'

Yeah, the mechs pretty much overshadow any possible faults the game may have for me. I mean, in Battlefield 2 seeing a tank come down the road can fill you with dread, but this is a while different matter.
