Bede03: Rodina Rising: Civ3v1.29-Honorable Diety

Thanks all,
She came through OK, but is still out of commission until tomorrow, so I'm playing solo parentis tonight.

Pre-flight – 150 BC – Dig out my Czarina outfit and go in drag. I figure we’re going to need HBR if we’re going to go to war with England. Those chariots just aren’t going to cut it. I use the Charis trick and drop both sliders to 0% to see what Monty will deal for HBR. We can get it for 4gpt, 35g & WM. I run min science while I collect some cash for upgrades.

IBT – Watch Monty sail two galleys to our north.
Minsk: sword=>sword

1. 130 BC – Manipulate the slider and some specialists to get more cash.

IBT – St Pete’s: sword=>sword

2. 110 BC – Upgrade our first horse. I think ten swords and four horses should be enough for a campaign against Elizabeth.

IBT – Smolensk: sword=>sword
Sevastopol: temple=>sword

3. 90 BC –

IBT – St Pete, Minsk: sword=>sword

4. 70 BC – Upgrade another chariot.

IBT – Three Shocks: temple=>sword

5. 50 BC – Build a road to the front.

IBT – St Pete: sword=>sword

6. 30 BC – Upgrade another horse.

IBT – Watch the Aztecs sail about and…

Our scout is taken out and several warriors march into our lands. :lol:
Minsk, Smolensk: sword=>sword

7. 10 BC – I spy an English knight of the Round Table in Hastings. :eek: Some nice war happies kick in.

IBT – Defeat a warrior at Moscow. Two knights approach. An English Galley sets sail.
St Pete, Sevastopol: sword=>sword

8. 10 AD – Move a stack of seven swords and two horsemen to the mountain next to Hastings. Divert some units towards Moscow to deal with the knights.

IBT – A knight is dropped off on our east coast. A second English galley starts up the west coast.
Three Shocks: sword=>sword

9. 30 AD – Lose a sword killing the knight in our backyard. Kill two spears in our jungle.

@Hastings – Lose two swords killing the four defending spears and capture the city.

IBT – The English are in retreat, probably maneuvering to assault Hastings. A second galley starts up the west coast.
St Pete, Minsk: sword=>sword
Odessa: horse=>horse

10. 50 AD – Maneuvering and healing.

After action: Here is a Sitrep of the front:

I would gather a few more units in Hastings and then press on towards Dover. Expect at least four defenders in Dover, plus a decent counterattack. There are presently five swords and two horsemen in Hastings. You will probably need another three or four to march on Dover and leave a decent garrison in Hastings.

Here is our most vulnerable area, our SW coast.

Where I have drawn the red lines are all potential landing spots that we can’t defend very well. I have some units moving there. I would build roads and clear the jungle so that we have some nice killing zones. When we can afford it, we should position a unit on the two coastal mountains. Everywhere else we have a nice zone defense in place.

Please note that my daytime internet access is going to be very limited due to workload over the next few months. I will attempt to be here as much as possible, but please don’t count on me. Likewise, I may have to reduce the number of SGs I’m playing in, but that may not be for a while.

Got it. Play tomorrow night (Saturday)

Lions and tigers and bears, oh boy.

Pull spears onto the mountains at Hastings to deny the high ground to approaching English warriors and a knight.

I can buy Map Making from the Aztec for 182g (9gpt +2). With what we have invested so far it is not a bad deal, so done. And I can buy Masonry for another 5gpt (100). THen hire a tax man and a scientist in St Petersburg and drop the entertainment budget to zero with research set to Mathematics.

90AD

Tactics at Hastings worked a treat. English atacking force exposed itself on the grassland and got chewed. One knight died, another retreated, and five more miscellaneous units died to combined swords and horses. Despite the carnage Lizzie won't talk.

Lizzie gets her revenge by gnawing on the garrison at Kiev, we lose a spear and a sword.

She lands a warrior and a spear at Hastings.

110AD
Garrison at Hastings deals with approaching spears and a sword leaving two warriors on the attack with no defenders. The English knights have retreated into the jungle east of Kiev.

110-120
Hanging on at Hastings. Elite sword kills conscript Anglo-Saxon warrior but no MGL.

130AD
Elizabeth will give up Mathematics and 6g+5gpt for a Peace Treaty and she has at least one pike in the garrison at Dover...Not wanting to beat swords to death against pikes without cats... Done. Buy Montezuma's Territory map for 2gpt. Start galleys on both coasts. And our miserable citizens celebrate the arrival of peace by throwing garbage on the streets and holding demonstrations.

And in 150AD our first galley sets sail to the south.

In 150AD the Americans build SunT.

In 210AD the Aztecs start Copernicus's Observatory.

From 210 to 250 build workers at St Pete and 3 Shocks to get the jungle cleared in the south.

Sailing four galleys, two on each coast trying to find a sea lane. Smolensk finishes its harbor next and sned all the citizens fishing for an income kicker, giving the shield producing tiles to 3 Shocks. Stll can't buy maps or contacts.

Roster check:
Ankka - up
denyd - on deck
RowandLive - hope all is well at home. best wishes to the missus.
Sir Bugsy - work load is increasing, play time is decreasing, don't forget to have a beer.
Bede - blessed are the peacemakers, I guess.

Hajime - on waivers till heard from

:beer: Here's beer for handling that little furball! Well Done!!

Got it, I think I might get this today. Gotta love vanilla.

SO I guess just getting some more army and infra up will do good to us... and finding someone else? Some galeys would propably be good.

Early: 3 Shocks starts producing cats every 2 turns. So does St Pete.

Middle: Minsk starts building horses every 3 turns. We are kicked from Lizzy's land to a situation some turns backwards.
Sistine's is built in Babylonia. :eek:

English start and complete Copernicus' on the same IBT. Not the same as the Sistine's was built, though, but a few turns later... Still quite a tech pace.

Late: Kicked for second time. Still no deals nor new land. We are running a decifit way too much. Luckily we're getting some pt back in just a few turns.

We are starting to have some military again, cats and horses. Another assault on England is vital now.

Good luck to next better player. We must attack now or we'll face cavalries soon.

Just make sure the peace treaty has expired. If Lizzy asks to extend it, say no and stand by.

Looks like I'm up in this one and war should be breaking out in about 5 or 6 turns. I'll take a look at where the vunerable targets are (on both sides) and reinforce our defenses and setup our offense for the beginning of Russia vs England round 2. I probably won't be able to play until Monday night, so if someone else wants to jump in between here and Monday 9pm PDT, go ahead.

Turn 5 – 400 AD – Cats go 2 for 9 on as exposed Knight – Elite Sword (2/5) kills Knight – Vet Horseman loses to Vet Knight (2/4) – Vet Horseman (3/4) kills Vet Knight – 6 English Knights approach Kiev

IBT: Not much, just a galley approaching Novgorod & a Sword & LB duo heading for Kiev –

Turn 9 – 440 AD – This is a healing troops as no English troops are in our lands – At Reading Vet Sword (4/4) kills Reg Spear

IBT: At Reading Reg LB (2/3) kills our Vet Sword – A knight joins the foot troops heading to Kiev = Three Shocks Sword->Sword – St Petersburg Sword->Sword – Minsk Sword->Sword

Turn 10 – 450 AD – All units will 100% healthy for next player – no enemies on our land at the moment

Not much to say, we are falling farther behind on tech, but I think the English may be spent, it’s probably time to start on the offensive. Dover is probably ripe for the taking, but pikes will present a challenge.

PS: Best wishes to Mrs R&L for a speedy recovery

Thanks for all the wishes on Mrs. R&L, other thn follow-ups, she seems to be through the acute part, and on to a meds regimen.

I need to finish SGoTM4 tonight, and so can play this tomorrow night.

Sorry. With RL, it looks like I won't get this until Friday or Sunday. Please skip until next round.

OK, I have it. I should have it up by Friday night at the latest.

I have it halfway played. No big news, just fighting, and fighting, and fighting.

Pre-flight – 450 AD – Well of course we’re at war again with England. Wake up and move some troops towards Hastings. I’ll attack Dover first.

IBT – England drags the Aztecs into the war against us.

1. 460 AD – Start a five unit march on Dover.

IBT – Elizabeth wants us to pay for peace. HA! Your mother is a hamster and your father smells of elderberries!
Not a good RNG. Lose a spear in Moscow, a sword out of our Dover force, and a spear at Hastings. Perhaps I shouldn’t insult her.
St Pete, Sevestopol: sword=>sword

2. 470 AD – Kills: two knights, an LB

IBT – Kill a LB, lose two swords.
Three Shocks, Minsk< Sverdlovsk: sword=>sword
Smolensk: horse=>sword
The English start Smiths. Yes we are far behind.

3. 480 AD – Retreat three horses at Dover, don’t even make a dent.

IBT – Lose a sword and a LB
St Pete: sword=>sword

4. 490 AD – Lose a sword killing a pike at Moscow. Try a suicide galley to make the other contacts.

IBT – Kill a knight at Hastings
Odessa: horse=>sword

5. 500 AD – The galley survives, so we’ll have a new contact next turn. Kill a LB.

IBT – A knight is dropped off in our backyard. Lose a sword.
Three Shocks, St Pete, Minsk: sword=>sword

6. 510 AD – Lose a sword killing a LB. Meet Babylon. Hammy is furious with us. Why is Hammy furious with us? We pretty much can’t execute any trades. Of note: Hammy has a city named Philadelphia.
Kill the knight in our backyard.

IBT – Lose a warrior at Kiev.
Sevastopol: sword=>sword

7. 520 AD – Kill the knight at Kiev. Clear some jungle. The price for peace keeps going up.

IBT – England pulls the Iroquois into the dogpile on us.
St Pete, Smolensk: sword=>sword
Yakutsk: barracks=>sword
Aztecs build Bach’s.

8. 530 AD – Kills: 2 pikes, LB
Lost: sword And the cost of peace climbs higher.

IBT – Lose two spears at Hastings.
Three Shocks, Minsk: sword=>sword

9. 540 - @ Hastings – Kill two knights and …

Build a sword army and send it towards the English core for some pillaging.

IBT – Monty wants us to pay him 20G for peace. Just to reduce the dogpile, I agree.
A sword is dropped off in our backyard and the knights go around our army.
St Pete, Odessa: sword=>sword
Novgorod: temple=>harbor

10. 550 AD – Kill the sword in the backyard.

After Action – Building up a force of swords in Hastings. You will probably need ten swords plus cats to march on Dover. Use the Army/horse task force to pillage like crazy in the English core. Target the iron and stay nearby. If we can cut down on the pike and knight production we can take some English cities.

An age behind and fighting for our lives and honor.....what did we ever do to Lizzie?

Got it. Will need full 48 to finish.

Very nice job on getting us an army, Bugs.

Just remember that this isn't C3C so the AI will attack it. But I guess we should be able to cut the iron. If we can, we have a chance. our chances go up a lot, as they won't get pike's or knights... hopefully not muskets either. Swords against muskets would be quite a killer.

Bede03

550AD
Alles in ordnung.

I count three English sources of iron, so our sword army will have to cut a wide swath through England.

Send the citizens of SMolensk fishing to boost the cash flow and build a scout to add punch to the pillaging team.

English knight kills a sword at Hastings.

560AD
March the army deeper into England and find muskets in the defense at York.

Kill the English knight.

Babylon joins the furball and starts Magellen's Voyage.

580AD
Marching further into England.

English knight cuts the silk road south and 3 Shocks riots.

Babylon starts Smith's after completing Leonardo's Workshop.

590AD
Lose a sword killing an English knight dropped off at Odessa.

600AD
I can get Code of Laws and 25g out of the Aztecs for Horses. Leave it on the table for a minute.

610AD
Since we are at war with everybody else but the Americans, whom we haven't met yet, take the deal but restructure it for the cash in his treasury 86g+4gpt. Use the xcash to raise the luxury tax until the silks are back on line, the hole is deeper but at least we have a larger ladder....

continue the pillaging mission

620AD
Pillaging London

Iroquois build Smith's.

630AD
Send every citizen in town with a harbor fishing to get back in the black.

640AD
Fishing and moving swords around. Pillaging London.

650AD
The price for peace keeps going down.

We are holding our own both economically and militarily but not gaining anything.

There is a force of three swords and a horseman heading to the English horses in the western marches south of Moscow. I can't pull enough force out of Hastings yet to make a march on Dover.

All of the jungle is cleared at home!
