I decided to bump up my game recently so that, hopefully, playing on King won't be so hit or miss. Most of the time I settle cities with no overlap and let my workers automate everything. I want to change this up for the better so I can eventually start playing on other difficulties. Without further ado, here are some pictures:

I'm playing as the Aztecs on King, Continents, and Standard size. France, obviously, is to the southwestish, Persia is way northeast, and I have only met Japan (although I suspect he is to the northwest way past the lake). My immediate concern is did I put Teotihuacan too far west just to grab the gold there? The river should make it difficult for France to take over if they get grabby. My next concern is in what direction to settle next. Ultimately, I'd like to found a city to the north of Tenochtitlan at the spot just west of the deer. This gives me another gold to trade (probably to Paris) and will be close to the lake which should give me plenty of food. However, I don't think there will be much competition for this space given how far Persia and Japan are. I would think that the best idea would be to start denying France any room to grow in the direction south of my capital. After that thought, I have no idea where I should settle. I see 3 cities total to the south and east but something tells me I should probably have 4, maybe 5. And since I just mentioned specialization, I was thinking the capital should probably be a great person farm with the rivers there. Teotihuacan I really have zero clue about. I mean, there's plenty of forest and some hills, coupled with the river for food, and 3 jungle spaces... but nothing sticks out immediately as I must use this city to do one thing. Only I'm thinking that not a lot of other places look that great for production in the future, so I'd probably wind up with a bunch of lumber mills and mines at that location.
Well, that's my thinking so far. If any of it is flawed, please let me know. Also, if you can answer any of my questions I would /greatly/ appreciate what led you to that conclusion so that I can begin to learn to apply that to future games.
