After the first few playthroughs, you'll have seen all the affinity/faction combinations, and it will cease to be novel or interesting. I don't see the point of a leader screen unless there's some kind of player-controlled customization.

That's why it should be a Throne room that also changes based on virtues and other in game things.

(Although there are 24 options and you only see 7 per game... Theoretically you could see them all in 4 games, but that is the Minimum.....also you couldn't see the one based off the choices You made in that game)

Depending on whether each leader's path down an affinity is the same or not, you could have 8x3=24 combinations to watch slowly progress as the rest of your affinity progresses. 24 playthroughs isn't bad - certainly enough to at least be worth being able to view (keeping in mind that the additional work to just view is minimal since they need to plan it for the AI as well).

You see them on the other leaders. You'll have seen most of the combinations after just three or four playthroughs.

I think it's different when you experience that sense of progress for yourself, but we may just have to disagree on this one.

I think it needs a lot more playthroughs for that to happen.

About 16 of the 24 in three playthroughs
~20 in 5
~22 in 7
~23 in 9
(Assuming all 8 player games where everyone survives to maximum Affinity)

However, that neglects the benefit of showing what You did in this game (you went Supremacy Elodie, even if you have seen it already...it is worth seeing again)

After all you can see all 40+ civ leaders in the civilopedia (not their full backgrounds but their basic view)

Yeah, not seeing that happening in any of my playthroughs.
I'm the genocidal kind of guy, so I can't expect many of them to actually reach final levels in their Affinity.

I've been thinking what would be the best or more realistic way to implement a "Throne Room" screen where you can view the progression of your leader in his chosen path, and I came out with these:
1) A save game screenshot with the leader's progression.
2) Esc to menu, the leader's next to the menu (maybe animated?)
3) A throne room where you can enter with a click of a button, with an environment also based on affinity.
4) A screen of the leader is shown every time the player passes a milestone in his chosen affinity.

So, what do you guys think you'd like most? Or what could be the most realistic addition to the game?

As some said, there is no point of a leader screen, and customization is quite superfluous, but there is no reason we cannot add the current leader in existing screens: 1) and 2) seem really good ideas (include leader in save-game screenshot (or in save-game screen), or in menu-screen). Also, internal stats screen (statistics or domestic advisor), might be a good place).

It should not take that much place to interfer with the usability of these screens, but it is there if you want to see it.

And I think it is pretty much like the city view (I really, really, miss these, even if now the cities look better on the map). At some point in the game, you need to stop and look at what you have achieved, and the status of your leader regarding affinity seems like one of these things that give you sense of progress.

Customization can give an individual a sense of ownership. We can customize how our phones, computers, and even cars look. I see no reason not to offer customization; it gives the company products to sell and it makes purchasers feel good. It may be superfluous, but giving the customer exactly what they wants makes them happy. That's how I've spent about $100 so far on a free-to-play game.

Well, this is the definition of perfect DLC:
Additions that make the game more interesting for those who want them, but by no means something that lessens the game value if not purchased.

Personally, I definitely don't want them to spend time/money with the implementation of leader customization - if this time/money is missing for the development of the core game in consequence.
As DLC however (and as long as there is still more interesting DLC for me to purchase ;) ) I wouldn't mind a "Barbie-Doll-DLC" for those who have fun dressing up their leaders!

Would you think this is a better DLC than the 6 custom maps they offer?
I would certainly preorder if I could see and/or customize my leader's appearance.
In a heartbeat! :)

I fail to understand the preferences of some people...
Of course it's not a bad feature per se, but I rather have them invest the time in something that improves the game.

It's still about priorities. I hope they rather invest the time in core gameplay features. There is always time for giggly gimmicks after the release. Or maybe someone makes a mod. Or you paint a picture and attach it to your monitor and imagine this to be your leader. ;-P

Wow... is it really that easy to make money out of people? Being able to play dress up is what matters to you in a civilzation game? REALLY?

I'm all go to anything that boosts immersion, and customizing the leader's appearance or even being able to see him do that on his way through an affinity, is definitely immersive. To me this is a modernized throne room that was a very interesting addition to the early civ games.
I'm also in favor of the refinement of the core mechanics, but that doesn't mean this added feature works against it.

Also I'm making. a case against the known preorder DLC (the 6 custom maps) that I find inferior to a leader view/customization screen.

Please be careful when belittling and minimizing features that other people would like to see in games. Not everyone sees a feature in the same light. Character customization can be a psychological icebreaker to foster greater immersion in any game, which is why it has become quite popular in the last decade (Skyrim,Fallout, The Sims, and Saints Row as varied examples.)

I tweeted Will Miller and David Mcdonough to ask. XD I hope they respond.

Also, I wouldn't mind that they show your leader at least every time he/she changes appearance due to affinity levels.

Changing the negotiation screen to display the interaction between your leader and theirs seems like a nice idea though.

Hmm. I wonder if that far in the future they mastered cloning + brain transplant. (With the rationalization that it's horribly expensive and/or kept Top Secret from the worker drones.) Every 10 years Fearless Leader transfers his brain to a fresh clone. To the outside world he looks immortal. (Always good for PR.)

That would make this the first Civ that has an explanation for why a faction/civilization has the same ONE leader being in office literally for centuries.
