Berserks01 - Always War Cultural Challenge

Just a thought. Do we want to put the Oracle in our capital as to preserve a GP pool? Or pollute a tad, split the wonders, and run artist specialists when we get caste system...lord knows the capital has ALOT of food.

Okay...now how are we going to play this...

My preferred option is build one decent offensive stack to stop AI's from settling close, and build tons of bows in three groups, fort the edges of our lands, and use them as a moving great wall to stop invasions.

As for the situation, we could quite possibly grab feudalism, which would admittedly give us quite a window in which to bulk up/expand becuase no AI around will be able to unseat those for awhile.

All the forumulae for winning culture victories call for an unpolluted Great Artist Farm. It's sub-optimal to have our capital, which will be one of our legendary cities also serve as the GA farm. We need to find a high-food, low hammer alternative for that and leave our Capital to build Wonders and culture buildings with lots of military units in between.

The green dot should serve that purpose well frankcor. 3 food resources and plenty of grassland and some hils.

Indeed.

We can erect the National Epic there then...

What do you guys think about a Globe Theater/Slavery Strategy to provide our military in the capital...

I vote nah o the music, we have time, and I'd like to get that stone as well, so we can build the Notre Dame.

I've never thought to try a Globe Theater/Slavery strategy before. I rarely build Globe Theater, not realizing there might be tremendous power in being able to whip continuously. The downside seems to be that it inhibits the growth of our capital but I haven't crunched the numbers to be sure.

If you get the stone, you'll miss out on the wheat for green dot. Maybe another city ... unless there's a hidden food resource in the fog...

It seems I'm disagreeing a lot with vra3779971 but maybe it's good to have different perspectives...I would not want Nidaros to be a whipping post: it's a commerce titan that will drive our economy for the whole game, with a sensible use of the whip for infrastructure.

For me, green dot should be a production powerhouse (Heroic Epic city?). It's perfectly placed to be able to send units to three key cities, and is likely to suffer a lot of enemy encounters.

North Black looks a much better spot for an artist farm, away from the front line. With fish, oasis, hills and FPs it's well enough balanced to build National Epic and culture infrastructure (I'd probably put the Hermitage there).

Oh crap...I've just realized I'm up already! Off to play it...

I thought Fox said something about using 3 AI capitals as our big 3. Are we now using our own cities as the big 3?

@beserks01 - can't say I've ever tried taking capitals to that end, but doesn't culture get set back to zero when you take a city and the conquered wonders don't give culture, IIRC.

Will post brief report of the ten I played directly.

Not the most interesting turnset in CIV history. I note England's borders lie south of Purple as I load up. Hit enter and wonder what Genghis's Axe will do...he moves towards Pointy the spear so we move the axe to guard. This Axe would dog me for the duration. Our slow dance to Nidaros cost us a Shock Axe who succumbed despite 71% odds in his favour.

Trouble at Upsalla:

The nets are ripped up in two turns. I stayed on Oracle as a whipped trireme would have got there too late.

Turn tow saw Monarchy learnt, but we don't revolt yet as we're not gonna grow much right now. Haithabu the Unhealthy gets founded and starts a granary. It'll be fine once it's connected.

Other that that I whipped a Library at Nidaros, after letting it grow. It's now soaking up the anger on commerce/hammers. Oracle and Maths in one turn. Can I have my culture bomb please?

EDIT: As for the Oracle, let's grab Feudalism then revolt to HR and Vassalage.

I didn't say we should use AI's capital ... I say we should forget abt culture at this point and focus on beating up the AI into a bad shape so that they are a less threat when we do think abt culture. I also think that we shouldn't be wasting time building more settlers. Let AI build cities for us. The point abt capitals are, there are usually food rich sites allowing us to run specialist. AI also tends to build wonders in their capitals as well.

I encourage people to read this SG: KK-04 -- Cultural Capitalist.

Oh, my bad. I must've misunderstood you there

I've got it for tomorrow.

Yeah, we might want to nab Cyrus' city on our black dot, especially if that will deny him iron.
