which game has the best/smartest ai you´ve met?

my personal favourite is nhl2001. it´s really good. when i´m playing at the all star level i usually let the ai controll the defenders when i´m denfending because they do that better then me.

No, the best AI ever has just been released. It was formerly called Peacemakers (not Peacemaker, which was a pitiful Helicopter shoot). Now it's called <FONT COLOR="red">Conflict Zone</FONT c>. It's an RTS programmed by a French team, MASA. In fact, normally when people programmed a game, they focus on the 3D engine and leave a small budget for the AI. For MASA it was the opposite. They are researchers who studied a lot in neuronal intelligence network and to test their theory, they decided to do a game. Totally opposite I said. And the result is that effectively, you won't lose because the AI cheats and invades you with 20000 units. But because it's really smart. Test it. It's a game made by researchers in AI.
