@bru: Yeah, triggering a golden age shortly after Republic is a substantial advantage to have.

@BretP: I like all civilizations. I wish they were a little more nicely balanced, but other than Industrious, Firaxis has done a good job.

Another thing that helps with war weariness under a Republic is to not be seen as the aggressor by your people. Get them to declare war on you if possible. It isn't necessary, but it sure does help.

Can you guess my favorite civ?

The Persians have been great through monarch level. I think militaristic might be a better advantage at emperor and deity, unless you can find a way other than war mongering to overtake the AIs. Even the scientific Persians with the free tech can't keep up with the AI.

Thanks for all the advice everyone, I think I'm going to try China for a while. The funny thing is in the game I'm playing right now I'm in the Modern age and still in despotism I'm the Richest one in the game (playing on Warlord) I have around 5000 gold now. Isn't it great Thanks again for the advice.
