Hello there, been lurking on this forum for a while, so I figured I'd create an account and share what was probably the best moment I've experienced in around 200 hours of playing this game.

I started a large, marathon, 22 civ game on the Europe map as the Aztecs. After a few turns passed, I started to meet my neighbors. On turn 5, I met the Zulus, then on turn 7, I met the Huns. Shortly after, I met the Mongols, and Germany and thought to myself that it'd be funny if Greece was as well (Turns out they were, found them a little bit to the west).

The part that really caught me off guard was the Zulus and the Huns declaring war on me on around turn 50 without provocation. I had 2 jaguar warriors at the time and didn't expect a huge war this early on.

It took about 5 turns for the Zulus to send their army to my capital. It wasn't that intimidating, 3 warriors and 1 archer along with a great general, so I figured I could win pretty easily by fighting defensively. It was also around this time when I realized the Huns were nowhere to be seen.

After chasing the Zulus away from my land and back to their capital, I noticed a single Hunnic warrior on his way to my capital. I quickly sent my two jaguar warriors back to my city, figuring it was better to be safe than sorry. It turns out that it would be the only thing saving me from destruction.

The largest army I've ever seen this early on arrived on my doorstep at around turn 100. There were 4 warriors, 2 archers, and a horse archer all ready to begin the attack. After the archers annihilated a random barbarian that found its way to my land, the warriors began to attack my city. I positioned one jaguar warrior by the horse archer and started weakening him, while my other was in my capital to weaken the enemy warriors.

I only just barely made it, there was a single enemy warrior left when my city had 0 health, and taking him out was difficult with how wounded my jaguars were. I got incredibly lucky that the AI didn't decide to gang up on my wounded during the siege, and also that the computers decided to come in waves. Never before in all of my games with domination being the only victory setting have I experienced the possibility of defeat this early on.

If you've experienced something similar, or you've got an interesting story about one of your games, please share it, as these stories are very entertaining.

Well I'm glad you didn't lose your capital - and welcome to the Forum!

Welcome to the forums! And good job fending off that attack.

I have a story of one particular game that was very fun. It was on Civ5 vanilla before I got G&K. I was playing as Persia and started on a continent where it was just me, Arabia, and a few city states. It wasn't too awfully long before I saw an Arabian army massing near my border, and I knew what was coming. They DOW'd me, but I eventually beat them back to their own land, and ended up taking two or three cities, then settling for peace.

So some time passes and Arabia somehow starts to make a good recovery. I think they might have even been ahead of me in tech at that time. I guess I didn't do enough damage the first time. Eventually, they DOW'd again.

I sensed their superior army and abandoned the cities that I had taken from them. I retreated and prepared to take a stand in my own territory. After some time, the Arabian army once again made it's way into my territory. A desperate battle ensued. But about that time I got a golden age, which gave me a combat bonus because of Persia's UA. Relentlessly fighting with out-dated units, I somehow managed to drive them back, and started to push them back toward their homeland.

It was about that time that Alexander, being on another continent, DOW'd me and made a landing on my continent. He didn't bring many forces, though, and just a few units diverted from fighting Arabia defeated his army.

And then I got G&K, so I never finished that game. It was one of the funnest games I've ever had on Civ, though.

I think one of the more hilariously memorable games I had was one where I was playing as Greece.

It was a Pangaea map, standard size, started with 7 other civs beside myself.

This was shortly after vanilla came out. Of course, playing as Greece I waged early war and took out the two of my neighboring civilizations. By the end of the game it was just me, Catherine, and Arabia. Arabia was too tiny to be of any consequence at this point. I shared a border with Catherine that ran the entire north-south length of the continent, right down the middle of the landmass.

We basically spent from about 1945 to 2010 parading our armies on that shared border, trying to intimidate the other. It was hilarious... she'd race some mechanized infantry up and vroom them back and forth, and then I'd race some modern armor up and vroom them back and forth. This went on until she declared war. Then we took turns slinging our nukes at one another until we destroyed one another's cities and armies.

Arabia ended up winning a tech victory.

I may have just been exploiting a bug in the AI, but I felt pretty good when my negotiators managed to hammer out a peace for peace deal that turn (with no other conditions attached).

Also, I felt pretty proud when I got this end game result on deity for my first win on the difficulty!

Even with the overpoweredness that is Poland, I did not expect to crush by so much!
