Sorry to half steal vbraun's title :mischief:.

Well, after getting a new PC for the whole family I was gifted with the old wreck.

There is not much worth salvaging...

It has a poor case, 250V, poor MoBo, graphics etc.

The only thing that could be of good use (I believe) is my optical drive (CD Rewriter) and the mouse, keyboard, screen etc.

So basically, what would be the best set up I could buy for £400/ $800?

I would need everything bar the optical drive and peripheals, and I could POSSIBLY keep the case, though it is very, very poor.

I am looking to purchase the components in January, so would the prices be reduced at all? And would be enough that allow me to improve some of the specs?

Cheers :goodjob:

Yes, probably at *least* a $100 difference in parts, I'd guess somewhat more. In fact, I wouldn't bother pricing/configuring a system if you've still got 4 months before you're going to buy it, I'd stick to reading about technology to stay current on different formats.

OK, cheers :goodjob:.

I will do that :),

If you want to keep an eye on prices over the next few months, you should look at:

www.komplett.co.uk

and

www.lowestonweb.com

I find that these two sites offer the best prices on pc hardware in the UK. Both of them have upgrade bundles (eg. cpu + mobo + RAM) which you may want to consider when you eventually make your purchase.

That's great, thanks :goodjob:.

Much better than having to translate dollars into pounds.

And I have not been able to find any decently priced sites by myself.
