Best Recent Civ Main Theme

Which recent Civ iteration has the best main theme?

  • Civilization IV - Baba Yetu

  • Civilization V - Various

  • Civilization VI - Sogno di Volare

  • Civilization VII - Live Gloriously

I would say Baba Yetu still reigns supreme but I absolutely love both of the others by Christopher Tin as well. I've been listening to all three on repeat for months now. Civ V's were unfortunately not on the same level for me. Gods and Kings probably being the best of the non-Tin themes

Christopher Tin has some amazing albums on addition to his Civ themes, I highly recommend anyone who enjoys his work on the games to check them out! Calling All Dawns, The Drop That Contained the Sea, and The Lost Birds are all beautiful.

Still Baba Yetu for me.
It's not as bombastic as Sogno di Volare and has more character then Live Gloriously.
However all of those are great, when not played in loop for too long.

I don't see colonialism anywhere on Baba Yetu, why do you think so?

I was going to ask the same thing but upon thinking about it, I guess I can see the logic. The song is just the Lord's Prayer in Swahili and there is an implication and obvious history of colonialism when it comes to prolytheization of Christianity in East Africa...

Ultimately I think it's a pointless detraction considering the song was composed by an Asian American in college for his game devoloper friend who appreciated a traditional African appacella group at their school and wanted the theme of the game he was working on to sound similar.

All of Christopher Tin's themes have been wonderful, but nothing stands up to Baba Yetu.

For me It's Baba Yetu followed very closely by Live Gloriously.

Baba Yetu brings me immediate joy when I hear it so it gets my vote. I cant tell how much of my love comes from my love of Civ IV but I do know that plays a factor.

Sogno di Volare certainly gets an honorable mention here as it is a very good theme for Civ.

I really like Live Gloriously. And I think the changing languages really complement the ages system of the game. Yetu, of course, is number 1 for me, but I should stress that the former is a very good track (imo), and should not be judged solely for comparison with the latter or earlier tracks. SdV is also good lol Just speaks to how well the team and composers come together to create art.

Baba Yetu, it needs no explanation. Still remember my first time opening up the game as a kid and being hit by it and just sitting there to listen to it.

Live Gloriously sounds, excuse me, glorious and it's my second place as of now. Let's see if I grow tired of it in a few years like what happened with Sogno di Volare to me.

Terra Nova from Civ5. I don‘t like the famous Baba Yetu at all, sorry all.

1) Baba Yetu (Civ 4)
2) Terra nova (Civ 5 Brave New World)
3) Al-Nadda (Civ 4 Warlords)
4) Sogno di volare (Civ 6)
5) Te Deum (Civ 5 Gods & Kings)
6) Live Gloriously (Civ 7)
7) Civ 4 Beyond the Sword
8) Civ 5

But honestly none of them are bad.

I count only civs V to VII as 'recent', I mean Civ 4 came out in 2005! That's before Facebook and Gangnam style!

Civ 4 is recent in my heart.

1) Baba Yetu (Civ 4)
2) Terra nova (Civ 5 Brave New World)
3) Al-Nadda (Civ 4 Warlords)
4) Sogno di volare (Civ 6)
5) Te Deum (Civ 5 Gods & Kings)
6) Live Gloriously (Civ 7)
7) Civ 4 Beyond the Sword
8) Civ 5

But honestly none of them are bad.
I like this list pretty much.

I believe the music in CIV5 doesn't get the recognition it deserves. 'Terra Nova' was my favorite to listen to while waiting for a new game to start; it always filled me with a sense of epicness.

This may be a hot take, but I think it's time to let Christopher Tin go. Baba Yetu is great, but neither the Civ VI nor Civ VII theme really popped. You're not going to catch that lightening in a bottle twice, let alone three times.

I wholeheartedly agree; I wish they'd just let Knorr compose the main theme.

I'll have to play Civ VII before I decide. Sonically I like Live Gloriously quite a bit more than Sogno di Volare, and it has the potential to equal or perhaps even exceed Baba Yetu as the best Civ main menu theme of all time. But I can't judge which is better without seeing it in the context of the rest of the main menu. Baba Yetu was a perfect fit for the visual design of Civ IV's menu as well. I wouldn't just fire up Civ IV and not play a game to listen to Baba Yetu (although that happened sometimes too), but would watch the main menu while listening to the music. What is that Civ IV tech quote? "The whole is greater than the sum of its parts"
