Ok, there isn't a luxury immediately nearby, but look at all those cows!!!

Wow! I played a game like that, but the cows were a bit more spaced out. I was able to build more cities pretty quickly, though. :)

I also played one where there was 6-8 ivory resources in the same area!

That happens quite a bit. They sometimes clump alot of luxury resources together, so a player (or AI) can have a monopoly on that resource. You would probably be the only one with ivory in that game, so you could use that as a more powerful bargaining chip in negotiations.

Kind of reminds me of how I started the last game. There were like 6 villages within 4 squares of my starting city, and I ended up with 4 techs (including ironworking) and two conscripts. Then built my second city in a jungle surrounded by 5 silk resources, and down the road a piece, 6 incense resources. Talk about luck. This has been my best start in a game.

Ran into Rome and wiped them out before they could spread after I traded tech with them. No one else had contact with Rome so it didn't matter.

Hey bamspeedy, this reminds me of a game where i had:

4 cows,
1 wheat,
1 iron
1 coal
1 fur
1 incense

all in the usable radius of my first town!

Imagine a > size 30 capital with iron works, factory and so on in a race for the modern Wonders :D

I actually restrained myself and went for culture victory - not too difficult with 10 wonders in the capital
