Of course, if the AI and SGLs worked as they were SUPPOSED to everything would be better.

That is the hole point,SGL don't work,the idea isn't bad but the way they apear sucks.

No the best timed SGL was when I was playing Mesopatamia conquest, and got 2 in rapid sucession, and a third later on giving me an easy wonder victory.

Whew the game is taking a LONG time to play. 700 AD now only and we're all (mostly) on industrial age and turns are taking long! And some AI's are way ahead on culture, seems no matter what you do in deity, at some point they will overtake you in production. Only way for a win is by conquest I think. I think this is why they disabled armies for the AI or deity+ would have been too hard to beat. Or they should have disabled armies in those levels - but who's to make the call on what's hard to which player? Also sucks a bit in this game that I lost the main middle-age culture wonders so the 20k win is unlikely. Have copernicus and newton though and salamanca doing 76 cpt The moment one civs discovers something, I immediately sell that tech for lots of gpt. Another thing the AI is weak at is disbanding units - I saw a stack of 100+ archers and warriors when I'm attacking with cavalry!? Something that artillery deals with nicely though!

Lucky!! I'd kill for a mere MGL at the moment! I'm playing the Japanese and have more elite samurai than you can shake a katana at but none are making the final step! Trouble is everyone is close to the end of the middle ages and I would imagine that riflemen will be their undoing!

Armies of 4 elite samurai can easily take cities with riflemen. I also suggest to send a horde of single samurai towards some riflemen as 'unlikely' victories can result in MGL's, at least in theory. At the moment I have tons of cavalry but still some knight armies, and the cavalry weaken the riflemen, then the armies pick off the stragglers left behind such as pikemen and spearmen. Amazing that the AI keeps spearmen in their capitals, and do not upgrade or disband them !! Oh yeah and don't forget to weaken the riflemen with artillery-type units.

I LOVE Artillery (long time, $10!). I'm just whining as this is the first time for a long time I've played a Mil civ and so far apart from cheap Barracks I'm finding the whole experience somewhat over-rated!

I've played the Chinese a lot, and I must say I get a consistently high number of MGL's with them. It all depends how aggressive you are, and on what level you play. Maybe there's something in the code that says you have a better chance of MGL the higher the level you are - well this is the general 'feeling' I have about this anyway. There is a Sid game that SirPleb played (in this forum) where had had scores of armies with a non-mil civ, so it goes to show. Also depends on how many battles you have obviously. Currently I have 8 knight armies and 2 cavalry armies in my deity game. And one MGL used for FP.

Ok, how about this: one time I was attacking the English, and after I took Londen I actually captured a unused SGL ! He died instantly but well, I thought it was really rare. Am I the only one to have ever experienced this?

I've killed a couple of AI MGLs in my time but never a SGL. man, I would have had to change my pants from laughing too much!!

pity great leaders can't be captured - like in the movie 'last samurai' when cruise was captured and almost lead the samurai to victory - now that would be fun! especially if it can be done in multiplayer. I can't understand AI attitude - I got the Inca's polite towards me - but they still brought a stack of death over to a newly conquered city, licked their greedy lips, and declared war on me! what the heck?? I feel like changing to communism and wiping everyone off the face of the earth

I did once get one from the 2nd last tech I researched before future tech (advanced flight or something) during one of my milked games, but at least he meant I didn't need a pre-build for the planetary party lounge.

Do you build Great Library or Pyramid (at Emperor level or above on Regular Map)?
